Default [Poll] Battle of the C3 Small Blocks - ROUND 1

[EDIT]3pm Friday Sept 7, poll closed - L-79 wins!!

Please do not vote further:D

Enough of the boring polls! I am going to be running a multi-round elimination battle royal of C3 small blocks (the BBs come later ;)). For each, I will provide a statsheet/road test review for comparison purposes.:D

Selections should take into effect several factors: 1) Performance; 2)
Curb Appeal; 3) Historical significance and; 4) Personal Preference. Please feel free to add your comments.

The first matchup is a classic battle of chrome vs. rubber, notchback vs. hatchback: :boxing :boxing

1968 L-79 Convertible 4spd 3.70 vs. 1978 L-82 4spd 3.70

Choice 1:

Choice 2:

Wow! What a poll!

I've gotta go with the '78. '68's were made for Big Blocks. A '68 that's slower than a '78 just seems wrong. :D

That '68 test seems to be another example of the magazine editors drinking and driving.  The L-79 is a MUCH stronger engine than that 0-60 time would indicate.

you have to remember thought, the '68 had the latest tire technology of the late sixities, so its no wonder....

That means about 56 people were too lazy to vote, but yet lazy enough to be surfing the forum

Gotta go with the chrome bumper car. Try adding the 70 LT-1, might run somewhat better. ;) of course I could be biased. :D

Remember the 68 's 350 hp rateing was gross hp not net and with the tire technology GS Bob referred to it probably had a hard time hooking up. I've always liked the 78, esp the Pace and the Silver Ann.

I just voted and then instead of clicking on "Return to C3" I just hit "Back" instead and my vote was erased, I tried to revote but got the "you can only vote once" error message.
I want my vote to count...and I'm not from Florida :boxing

Gotta go w/ the chrome bumper and flat back. Of course I may be biased as far as the window goes.

Gotta go with what is in my garage - '78 L82 4Spd 3.70.

Thanks for posting the R&T spec page, I had forgotten how heavy (3480) the sharks had become.

 Surprised to see the '78 outperformed the chrome bumper car.
Guess they came a long way with tire technology in those ten years.
What would be interesting is a retest of older cars on modern rubber to see the difference and how they stack up to today. :D

Only if we (the rubber bumpers) can re-test without all the smog crap and 2-1-2 exhaust!!!!!!! :boxing

Chrome bumper is my choice, although I like post 72´sharks.
I was kind of suprised at the performance figures... a 78 faster than a 68? for sure the tire compound and wheel advantage 15x 7 vs 15x 8
Why not a '69?

Please! How is this even a contest? The historical significance alone gives the win to the ’68. Also, those ¼ mile times are a joke… I’ll put my ’68 up against a stock ’78 any day of the week.
