I beg to differ........Myself and many others have had trouble with this 1406 carb on a stock older motor. EB's will say it's fine, but they are in business to sell carbs, aren't they?

I'm now running a 750 Edelbrock on my new 391hp crate, and no problem. The older weaker, low compression motors, will hate an EB 1406.......I don't care how much rejetting, reroddng, etc.. that you do.

Personal experience, and ones a few of my friends have had as well.

a lot of the EB problems can be traced to too high of fuel pressure. Keep the fuel pressure under 6 psi and you won't run rich. I use a Holley 803 regulator set at 5 1/2 lbs. The other side exit port of the regulator connects to the fuel return line.

You'll find most stock style pumps do 7-9 psi.

Also think I was exeriencing this with the old stock fuel pump!! Now running a EB mech. fuel pump, max 5.5psi I believe.......

It doesn't matter what carb you put on it....if it's a weak motor, that is losing compression, a new carb and intake aint' gonna do much for it!!

Have any of you had problems with excessive underhodd temp and fuel boiling in the edelbrock 140X. I noticed yesturday that my 1405 was making a bubbling noise from inside the fuel bowls. Nothing to my knowledge was making it past the float though. 1980, performer intake, aluminum heads, ceramic coated headers.

Thanks

My car had a EB Performer intake, a 1406 and a drop base open element air filter bolted on when I bought it. I had to add the adapter between the two to fix the vacuum leak. I just bought the stock L-82 intake to run on my car but the throttle linkage won't clear the air cleaner base. There is an adapter ring to raise the air cleaner, so I will give that a shot. I had to swap out the 3/4" thick Mr. Gasket spread to square bore adapter in favor of a much thinner EB plate that is about 1/8" thick.

I had to fabricate some of the linkage parts for hookup of the throttle cable. The parts offered weren't quite right. I even ordered some that were offered to adapt. But if I can do it anyone can. I put the Edelbrock 14064 along with the Performer intake.
I had a few clearance problems but cured them with a drop base filter and added a little more room with a 2" filter instead of the typical 3" filter.

How did you know you had that problem? What were the symptoms?

After running the car hard on the freeway and then stopping to park with the engine still running, the engine would constantly die. I had to restart about 3 or 4 times just to get going again. Once I got back on the freeway, and the engine got some airflow again, all was well. Aluminum intakes are known for transfering heat to the carb.

73Vette,
I used that same spacer and I do not have problems. I rather like the Edelbrock 1406 as it is very dependable unlike my Holley that was finicky and acted up frequently.

When you recieve it the manual will tell you that the floats have been adjusted for you, in my experience, take 15minutes of your time and recheck them. My 1411 was out to lunch.

Default 1980 L82 Q-Jet

I have a 1980 L82. I am going to remove the smog stuff and run a true dual exhaust. As far as the carb, I have seen many threads with folks saying keep the Q-Jet. Any recommended mods to the Q-Jet or should I go aftermarket? I plan on keeping original cam.
