Default smoke/vapor from valve cover breather

I've got some smoke coming from the passenger side valve cover breather after the engine warms up. What does this mean?

If there is no oil blowing out the breather you should have nothing to worry about. The vapor you see is normal crank case gasses venting to atmosphere. I would have to say that if it is not a excessive (fog) every thing is normal.

I personally recommend running a PCV system to keep all that oily crap off the engine and to help prevent pressure build up in the crankcase and blow-by.
In a PCV system the breather becomes a filter for fresh air being drawn into the engine crankcase and not a catcher of oil trying to leave the crankcase under pressure.

The car has no vaccume source at this time. I has about 2000 miles on the engine now and has been using synthetic oil since it was built. Would it possibly help to change it out to dino oil in case all the rings haven't seated yet?

Oil vapors coming out the breather is indicative of ring blowby. Do a leakdown test, and run a PCV system - you need some form of crankcase evacuation system.

I was concerned with mine for a while. Being a new motor & the use of syn. oil maybe your still getting some blow-by. I waited mine out and then installed a pvc system. The pvc system is something I think you need, like others have told you. Larry

So I should just wait a while and see if it stops? Then how do I go about installing a PVC system when I don't have a vaccume source on the carb?

I would install the PCV system ASAP. It uses constant vacuum source so you should be able to get it from the manifold. Depending on the carb you might be able to find a new base plate that inlcudes the vacuum port.

Does your intake have a plug in it where you could put in a port? If you not you can buy a space with a port or tap your intake.
