I`d like to know what do you think about our polish project to build the AWD C3 1979 Corvette . It will be equipped with LT1 stroker 388 engine with turbocharger. Transmisson is TH 400 with transbrake, the all powertrain is from GMC Typhoon, and the front part of the frame is from Typhoon with coilover suspension in all four corners. It will be the drag race car, specially build with the AWD powertrain , due to our very bad dragtrack surface.
Wow, incredible. I would have gone with a manual trans and IRS to try to make a road racer, but you're building a drag car so Did you use the typhoon frame or just transfer stuff over? If so did you have to widen it?

Typhoon`s front part of frame with all of the components (front differential carrier and IRS equipped with additional coilovers ) was directly weleded to the existing C3 Shark`s frame (as you can see on the attached pictures). After some modifications all is working perfectly.
The front frame fm Typhoon was not widen.The Typhoon`s wheel base is very wide itself, so if we would to widen the frame, the front wheels will be out of the C3 fenders.
an AWD vette that still looks like a vette when the body is put back on I like it. Its something I wish chevy would do in the future.
Other sports car company's have AWD models why not a corvette?
Ok, that's cool. I used to drive an AWD Eagle Talon - the AWD system hurt gas mileage a bit, but not bad. It was fun to drive, that thing would get traction on just about anything.
Based on the performance of my Volkswagen Golf R32 daily driver, I give a BIG THUMBS UP! to AWD. I would have used a GMC/Chevy Astro van with the same differential for a parts donor if the turbo truck was still in good condition. The Astro van has the same center diff as the Syclone/Typhoon vehicles but isn't woth very much on the retail market. The little trucks use the same suspension components and the GM "Metric" mid-size cars of the late 70's early 80's and many circle track parts suppliers have "trick" components for them but, it looks like you have a pretty good set-up with the coil overs at the front although I would have left the Vette IRS in the back as it will hook-up better than the live axel your photos show.
