Where to find an L88 style hood?
I want to get an L88 style hood or similar for my 71. All I've found is one at Ecklers for $549.00. Can anyone give any suggestions were else I might find a better deal. I'm open to look at any style hood with lots of clearance.
Thanks as always,

Dennis - I have the hood Paul recommended to you and am very pleased with it. Markus is right too, if you want the Ecklers hood, buy it through Gary. He'll give you a good discount off the catalog price.

I got mine through JC Whitney. $399 with cold air box and they included shipping ($65) direct from manufacturer. If you don't mind waiting 4 or 5 weeks, this hood is worth the wait, imo. Keep in mind it is available in the long style only. The fit and finish on mine is very good. About an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10.

J.C. Whitney only sells the long hood so you'll have to take off the wiper door. This can lead to some problems, you'll have to leave the trim up at the fender corners in order for the hood to blend in. Or try and build up and re-contour your fenders to match the hood.
Pay the extra $$ and get the right type hood for you year model long for later C-3's and the shorter for the 68-72 models.

Even though it is a pain in the foot to work on, I wouldnt dream of removing my wiper door. Paul, does the American Sportscar hood retain the stock wiper door? How did you get for $399.00. The website showed $467.00. Forum Discount?

Dennis, Yes they have the shorter L-88 hood for your year. Definatly get the proper hood for your car/vette.. I've E-mailed you with the full details. If you have further question, let me know. By the way Dave/Rolling Thunder turned me on to this Company. Good Luck, L8TER, Paul.

It appears from the pics. in your signature that you have an Lt1 hood already... thought it was the same as the L88...Am I mistaken? If they are in fact different and you have an LT1 hood on your car, are you interestetd in selling it?

Maybe a group purchase is in order. I am ready to order an L-88 hood as well. Would like to have the best fit possible. Will original hardware transfer to the L-88 hood or is there adapting involved?

Re: Where to find an L88 style hood? (Rob's 73)
I just ordered my hood from American Sportscar as Paul recommended. I just mentioned Paul bought his for $399.00 and she said she would do the same for me. I did verify you use of the stock mounts and latches with no modification.
She had the hood in stock and said I would have to pay freight collect of $54.00 to Springfield, MO. Thanks Paul for turning me on to this good deal.
Randy72, Yes the are different. The LT1 hood is almost stock height at the wiper door and has more clearance at the air cleaner. The L88 is taller for the entire length of the scoop. I would be interested in selling it for $200.00 plus shipping. Please note it is an LT1 style hood, not an original. I do not have the chrome trim that is on the orginal LT1 scoop. It is currently Warbonnet yellow, underneath that it is steel cities gray as it was on my dad's 72 for a short time. The hood is in perfect condition with no cracks. I can get close up pics if you like.
Rob, I didnt ask about a group purchase because I want to put the hood on know while my engine is out. Just incase I have to get underneath to open it again (been there done that) as they are difficult to get right the first time.
Beside I think $399.00 is an excellent price and Paul told me his fit was excellent.
Thanks for everything,

Dennis,
Please e-mail me some close up pics (on the car from the top and bottom of the hood) and let me know how much it would be to ship the hood from Mo. to the Detroit area (zip code 48317). Your price sounds fair....you don't happen to have an Lt1 intake to go with it do you?

Unless you are going for complete originality there is nothing wrong with the long style hood. I bought mine from Ecklers and it looks great. I removed the wiper door assmebly and am very pleased with getting rid of that non functioning vacum sucking crap. I think it even lowered my ET ha ha ha.

Re: Where to find an L88 style hood? (dennisr)
Bought my short style l-88 hood from ACI in ohio a year ago at their open house paid 325.00 and picked it up at my convience.Since sold the car to my dad who will probably remove back to stock. (So my mom can see over the hood) So it may be forsale .Bolted it up in a half hour minor adjustments only.Oh these prices are only once a year .During their open house. But you can order over the phone. terry :yesnod:
