performance tires on 15'' wheels?? need advice
hi, it seems there are no high grip performance tires for my 15'' wheels, i've contacted jegs (but suppose for the others is the same) and they recommended me Gforce BFgoodrich T/A drag tires 275/60/15 for the rear, which are pretty sticky tires, BUT for the front they adviced a low profile radial t/a same brand which on my opinion are in the same league of the cooper tires/etc...why is not posible to fix on the 4 wheels these sticky drag radials? jegs says these drag radials won't do good at the front, they're only good for rear grip.
it seems to me the only way round is to go into 17 or 18'', but i like meaty tires, with a big side profile...on 15'' wheels.
advices?

Check out Falken tires...that's what I'm running on my 15 inch wheels, and have been pretty happy with them...specifically the Ziex ZE-502. In fact once they warm up, they get pretty sticky. They're rated A for traction and temperature.

Hoosier
R3SO4 or A3SO4 DOT race tires for road racing or autocross
They have a 275 and a 245 wide tires for 15 inch rims.
The best grip you will find in the dry, hands down for a DOT tire. I would stay away from damp to wet roads. These are basically a road racing slick. They can be driven on the street but I would not recommend this practice.
Can get them right from a Hoosier dealer or contact a well known internet tire supplier. A guy named Luke comes to mind.

This topic has been covered many times...
15 inch performace tires are limited these days and mostly targeted for imports
Hoosier TD's and Goodyear Racing have Vintage Bias Ply tires NON DOT
M/T, BFG, Nitto, and M&H all have DOT Drag Radials
M/T has S rated Radial Hotrod tires
Cooper, BFG, Goodyear and some others have DOT radial streets in varing sizes
Dunlop G/T Qualifiers are T rated (118) MPH and are OK for road work when warm
In the USA/Europe Michelin sells TB15's in 335/35VR15 and some other sizes for road and track use for the 80's supercars, and I believe Pirelli has some limited Pzero tires in europe for 80's supercars.
Most guys are going 16,17, and 18 inch to get good rubber
I heard a rumor that Coker Tire has the molds for the old T/A and Euro T/A tires
325/50R15 ans 305/50R15?
I'd like to get 2 more inches of treadwidth in a 27-28 inch tire, I have plenty of room with 295/50TR15's ...

Same issue
I got fed up with the lack of decent tires in the 15" size. I ran BFG Radial TA's but they are not real good. I moved up to 16" rims and STILL have an issue. The backs are nice, real nice Dunlop 8000's, but can't get exactly what I need for the fronts. So I am running D5000's up front.
I think 17's are needed for good rubber, but I hate the look on an old school hot rod.

I agree that 17's or 18's are the only way to get good rubber anymore. That's what I'm shopping for. Currently I'm running Goodyear GTII's 295/50R15's on the back. They are ok but not spectacular. Dunlop P8000's in 245/50ZR15 are ok on the front. They are a lot narrower than I would like but they seem to grip well for their size.

Hoosier has an H-rated Pro-Street tire in a 27x10.5R15. Any one try this:

26.5" height, 10.5" section width
HR rated, $192 list

speed rated tires for 15 inch rims are almost non-existent,probably not enough demand. the T/A's, 255/60x15, on my 79 are rated to 112 mph and didn't wear well at all, they wore evenly, so it's not an alignment issue. I think some 70 wide yokohama's from tire rack will be my next tire, probably this spring.

I've had 2 sets of 245/15 T/A's on and will never buy again they are the worst tires that I have ever had on a car other than being round and looking nice they are junk! I have to agree with those who say that to get a good perf. tire you have to move up to 17/18".

I think one of the last true high-performance 15" "domestic-sized" DOT tires made were the Yokohama AVS Intermediates that were discontinued about a year or so ago. I have a set of 4 new P235/60R15s (the largest size) that I will use on something someday, if not the Vette then the Turbo T. They are a V-Rated tire and have an Auto-X tread that isn't very foul-weather friendly. They are wide for a 235, the overall section width is larger than some 255s I've had. The Yoko rep I used to work with said they were continually being asked not to kill it, apparently the powers-that-be didn't listen.

I am looking at the 6653 for the front and the 6654 for the rear
those have really wide tread widths for their section widths.
