If it's the 69 I'm thinking of, I'd like some detail on his trailer hitch.

I think you are thinking about the guy in the pump gas drags. He is running in the 8s. He has the trailer as his supprt rig and tires.

I'm assuming this is the same L88 that Super Chevy did a quick clip on the other month, mentionind is was the first f.a.s.t. car to dip into the 10's. I'd love to see that thing run!

yes its the one from the F.A.S.T. class that i posted and no one believed it. it wasnt until i listed 6 publications that it gained a response. still cant believe this forum isnt crazy about this vette. all stock parts/tires suspension. only internal engine mods are allowed. incredible!

I dont know of the car, but I have one also and have been saying this all along. But there are those that just cannot believe what a real L88 is capable of and will continue to insist a SB will go as fast. Thats probably because they have never owned and driven one. They are truly awsome and with bone stock parts. I do admit that the bone stock L88 parts are on the ragged edge though.

believe me that there probably isnt much stock left INSIDE his engine. its the fact that he did it on stock tires that makes it impressive! and ya had me till you started diss'n my sb's. my 383 went a best of 11.40 with street tires and bad rear spring. it wheelhopped for the first 30 ft. or so. and that was motor only.

The only change necessary left would be to improve the stock L88 camshaft. I must admit that 11.4`s are impressive with a SB, and I would be one of the first to congraduate you, but it`s still not 10`s.

OK, Here is the car you are speaking of (that is my 68 behind it)

Here he is at Etown launching .......

and here are the results you were referring to:

Not sure, but I think he used the ZL-1 block (all aluminum) for his engine buildup. The "stock tire" thing I'm not so sure about... I think they are "stock appearing" but I was told they are not the same bias ply tires that were made in 1968 but they are made from a modern compound very similar to what you find on drag radials. If we pause and think about it for a moment... they are getting 60 ft times in the 1.60s. Can that be done with for real genuine 1969 bias bly tires? I don't think so!

Interesting comment, I actually do have both of them. The only hemi capable of doing a L88 in, is the A990 race hemi and that too would be a touch and go situation. It would never happen with a street hemi. One single 4 bore Chevy as opposed to a cross ram dual quad Chrysler. Result, race preped, a toss up. With street tires, a massive cloud of tire smoke in both lanes.

Is that the same car that was in the pump gas drags? That certainly looks like it, I saw it when it came through Memphis this spring.

Keep in mind that even if they are using a sticky compound, there is still not much of a contact patch there. The tread width maybe 9 inches or so at the most. Simply amazing if you ask me.

Default L88 Vette

Thats my car! It does have an iron GM block, its 511 cid, roller cam,Heavy porting on the heads. Its making 650hp at the crank, still has a few more left in it,I'll save that for phase 2 this winter.I use a turbo 350 trans also.My tires are G-70-15 Firestone Wide Ovals from Coker tire. They have maybe 7 inches of tread. They are not special built tires! Not even close to Drag Radials.BTW I use cast iron exhaust manifolds that have been Extrude Honed, full exhaust with mufflers. The car is the current F.A.S.T ET record holder at 10.59@130mph.Thanks for all the nice comments!

"GOD BLESS" the man who has courage to Drag Race a car whose value is approaching the stratosphere!! But as I recall, that is what they were made for.

Nice article in Jan. 2006 of Corvette Fever. Sure would like to have a photo of the Mopar Faithful as you "Spanked" the '69 Hemi GTX.
