Default interior door panel problem

hi guys, i'm often here but seldom post new threads, until i need help, that would be now.
I recovered my door panels on my 75 with the vinyl layover.i am now trying to attach the chrome/rubber strip along the top, originally it had what looks like short hardwood flooring staples bent over inside .problem is they are almost impossible to line up the staple holes thru the new vinyl.my buddy has the ones on his 74 screwed in, but with good old canadian robertson head screws(he hates the look ) i am unable to buy #4phillips pan head screws to attach it.any easy fixes out there?? thanks guys.mike

A little off subject here, but what do you think of the layovers. Other than the trim question you have, did you run into any problems and how do they look? Any pics?
thanks

the layovers are "NOT" the way to go,they are almost impossible to get all the air bubbles out ,it can be done, but you should be aware that it doesn't look as good as the real panels.
i bought them cause they were 200 bucks each cheaper than the real ones, they look o.k. but i wish i had of had the money for new.
also you need to smooth any cracks in the base panel as they will show through.

Default I did the pop rivits to.

Nice fit. Quick, easy and most functional. Easy to drill out to take out too.
