Default T56 Swap In The C-3

I am still waiting on some good info on what all i'll need for my LT1
M6 swap, I have no room for error, so I just need details on the M6.
I want to keep the hydraulic clutch, and any tips, if any. THANKS ALL.
I will post pic's of the install and everthing, as soon I collect all info needed.

Go thru the online catalog and somewhere in the LS1 swap pages, they have a few pics that will be of use to you. Budman had a decent template of the bracket that he made. I had to modify it a little bit to work on my car (no power brakes).

Yea, I seen that, THANKS .

What I relly need to know is if I'mm gonna have to hack up my tunnel . KEISLER viper 6 speed, you have to chop the upper part of the tunnel, although I think they use a different bellhousing, i want to use the m6 stock bellhousing with the lt1, I'm not even going to
break it apart Its all going in as one unit, I hope.

I'm at the same crossroads of what to do. I have an LT1 and new clutch, but the tranny (M6) is shot. The car (a 70 coupe) came with a T400, and my friend has a 4 speed I could also use.

This guy has a few pics of a 6-speed in a C3 on this and the following page.

Let us know if you're gonna go for it...

I don't think that any of us who have T56s have had to cut the tunnel to fit. Don't worry.

Well I'm am going to do it for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just don't know why keisler sez you have to cut up the tunnel
to make it fit???????(for thier T56 to fit)

I am gathering all the info I need for the T56 swap, The LT1 is a fairly
easy swap, with the correct pullys installed. I want to make the T56 swap a one time shot, and not do anything I dont need to. I will be posting pic's of the pull and install with step by step instructions.
ans a lot of photos for everyone here

Gunther (WESCH) put a Viper T56 behind his big block and didn't have any problems that I recall.

I believe it is some sort of adapter plate.

Hi

The VIPER T56 is modified to fit the GM bellhousing.
It has a adaptor plate installed, so it fits all GM bellhousings, and myne is the original alu housing with the mechanical clutch linkage system.
The shifter exits about 2 1/2 inch to the right and 1 inch further back as the original one ( in the Vette ), that's why it has this offset shifter arm. The tunnel needs to be opened up in order to exit the shifter.
No further clearing to the tunnel was required.
I did not buy the KEISLER kit, but the tranny is the same ( or at least very similar ) as theirs.
I had to cut out the original welded crossmember and install a removable one about 2 inch further back and the tranny still sits right on top of it ( not forward on a bracket like the 4 speed M21 ).
The tunnel aft of the tranny, where the slip joke now ist ( much further back ) has clearance problems as it is very narrow. The slip joke runns further back in the old original drive shaft tube area. Depending on which type slip joke or U-joints you use, it might get problems.
The parking brake pulley had to be relocated and the cable shortened.
But all in all easy work.

I had to cut the tunnel slightly around the shifter opening. You don't have to, but I wanted to be able to remove the shifter from the top with the trans in the car.

There are a lot of Impala SS guys (myself included!) who have swapped a T56 into there mid-90's B-bodies to replace their 4L60E's. I'm not sure what pedal assembly would fit the Vette best, but most Impala guys use all the stock LT1 Camaro/Firebird trannies, hydraulics, and clutch setups. If you want to do something different, check out Weir Racing's site at http://www.weirhotrodproducts.com/id2.html
You could also do a search on www.impalass.com for "T56" and you'll find some alternatives to the stock Camaro clutch setup. I'm running a Mcleod master cylinder, slave cylinder, and Street Twin clutch in my Impala. The driveshaft should be the same length as one for a 700R4/4L60e conversion. I'm not sure what tunnel clearance is like on the Vette, but I had to hammer a spot into my Impala floorpan to clear the reverse lockout solenoid. It wasn't too tough, but fiberglass would not react the same to a hammer!
