How much power can the stock / slightly modified rear take before breakage?

Most people soup up their motors yet run a 30 year old drive train. No wonder they scatter parts all over the track. I have run a 500 hp/tq engine over 200 passes down the 1/4 with no issues. But I started with a completely rebuilt and improved rear suspension and diff assembly.
The best thing to do is to add the aluminum washers over the diff crossmember mounts, and install a new pinion snubber. That helps to keep the diff square to the frame. If it twists, that's when the parts start to break.
I never did use slicks though, even though I had mostly very low 12's and could never get under 2 seconds in the 60 foot.
