77 Rear suspension - sway?
I am trying to make a determination if the '77 I have should have a rear anti-sway bar or not? I have Chilton books that show then, and "upgrade kits" that show them, but then I see pictures without them.
Any '77 owners care to chime in about the presence (or lack thereof) of their rear anti-sway bar?
Brian.

The high performance FE-7 suspension came w/ a rear bar. To add the rear bar you also need to add the larger FE-7 front bar. This will help handling.
For more- the FE-7 is very good. See 77 Facts on my website for FE-7 handling. FE-7 also has stiffer springs & special shocks.

after doing all of my research i am not going to install a rear sway bar.....do you have a mono spring yet? that would be good improvement.

When you went to the mono-spring (I am assuming you did), did you select shocks to go with that? I have been looking around, and the bilstein or edelbrock both seem like respectable offerings. Thoughts?

Putting a real rear and largest front sway bar on was
the single greatest improvement I made to the ride of mine.
I now have the complete maxed out VBP systems on front and rear, but the "rail like" handling the monster has came 60-70% from that simple upgrade. (My bars are 1.25" front and 0.875" rear. It wasn't high engineering and probably could be tuned better with different shock selections, but I went with the largest anyone made.)
I can't recommend good sway bars enough.

From what everyone says, the front and rear sway bars should be certain sizes. My 76 uses I believe a 7/16" in the rear and 1 1/16" in the front. If you add the rear, you may have to step up on the front bar as well.
Like Ganey mentions, the factory perfomance package was a completely different setup from the stock setup. Your best bet is to talk to someone who could recommend compatable components. Just adding a rear bar may not make handeling any better and you could be going backwards.

I don't know why it works that way but the way it was explained to me is that increasing/decreasing the front bar size increases/decreases understeer and increasing/decreasing rear bar size increases/decreases oversteer.
