Default squirrelly steering

I don't know exactly what it's called and I will have to look at it again, but there is a joint popping and leaking power steering. When I go down the road the steering darts back and forth. I don't know exactly how to go about fixing it. Any tips on how to fix this? Anyone with a similar problem?

Your description is a little vague, but you might be referring to the control valve. You could try rebuilding it, there is a ton of information on the control valve and other steering issues here:

Take it to a shop and have them examine on a lift. Get an estimate and decide if it's worth it to DIY. I just rebuilt my entire front end, but after-the-fact, I might take it to someone else next time...in 20 yrs. when everything wears out again.

Maybe it just needs to be balanced. I replaced mine and that's what happened until I had them balance it. Now it works fine.

Good point, it might be several things that are worn, tie rod ends, idler arm, control valve ball stud, rag joint, steering box. You need to look over the whole front suspension/steering to see.

Default the last thing

Yeah I've already replaced most of the front end, tie rod end, shocks, etc. Thanks for the help. It's the control valve.

Your post doesn't make sense - what do you mean? Balance tires? He's talking about the front end.

I'd get an alignment first and go from there. My guess would be the toe is way off spec.

The control valve. Balance the control valve. If it's not balanced, start the car and watch the steering wheel turn by itself. Big fish said that it could be the control valve. I said to check the balance. You gotta follow along rihwoods knew what I was saying.
