Default Source for 12" rear spring bolts?

I have the 8" rear spring bolts with my fiberglass replacement spring, but rear ride height is (suprise suprise) too high. VBP has longer bolts:

http://www.vbandp.com/detail.aspx?ID=383

but $60.00 plus shipping for two bolts seems a bit silly, doncha think? Especially since the 10" blots are "only" $20 (plus shipping) for a pair

http://www.vbandp.com/detail.aspx?ID=443

Where might I look for 10 or 12 inch by 1/2 inch grade 8 bolts?

12" could create a very serious safety issue.

10" max.............even then those would be the first thing to hit the floor if you get a flat.

Mcmaster-carr is a good source for fasteners (10" type).

I purchased my Grade 8 8" bolts w/nyloc nuts from a local industrial bolt supplier (Yellow Pages: "Bolts") for less than $15.

However, as indicated above, 12" might be pushing it.

I've been looking online (I live in a small town, and local options are sparse), found lots of bolts up to 8", but no bigger. I was trying to remember the name "Mcmaster-Carr", they have a great selection of goodies, I bought some bronze bushings from them before. I'll try them next.

If 10" is the biggest I can safely go, then so be it...I'll order some 10" ones.

Thanks all!

Roy, if in a small town in Iowa, then try the closest tractor supplier.
Chappel Tractor up near me carries lots of HD hardware.

www.mcmastercarr.com

10" long bolts 5/8" diameter, Grade 8 $10 each

1/2" or 5/8" diameter - both sizes fit

I think original is 1/2"

I don't think you'll have to guess. They are going to post some results of their recent testing. I would be surprised to hear anything other than they have no issues with ride height and will not do anything about it. The test results were supposed to done by the end of Feb, might still be looking at data so it can look like there is nothing wrong with all of them. I won't buy another product from them until they admit there is a problem and come up with some sort of remedy.

There should be no reason to use 10" bolts. I had to use them to drop the car under 30". In my opinion that is too long and affects the safety ot the car. 12" bolts are insane, they be hanging way low.

IMHO 10" is a safety hazzard!
12" is stupid.

I'll be surprised if they post ANY results what so ever.

An I've quit caring

The spring is TRW, maybe 360lbs? I don't recall. I would rather have 6" bolts than the 8" I now have, but I'm jacked a long way up in the back, and I don't wish to return to the steel spring.

The tractor shop would have been a good idea, I have John Deer and Case III within 5 minutes of here. I just ordered from McMaster Carr though.

BINGO!!

Do yourself a favor and forget about the 10" and 12" bolts. Take the spring off and send it back for a refund. Then buy a composite spring from VBP. You'll have the height you want with 8" bolts.

I seen a post where one of the memmbers took a turn too fast and the longer bolt actually shredded the inside wall of the tire!

I would do what you could to return the spring you got and buy the VBP spring. Mine was the right height with the bolts they sent.

10" bolts looked great on my car, but it was too close to the rim lip and tire...even with 17s. I didn't want to take any chances, especially with burnouts and taking hard turns. I took them off, and stuck my 8" bolts back on. 12" is probably not going to help since it seems that the spring is the case for riding too high.

Can't comment on what maximum length should be. Check www.fastenal.com for a location near you. The guys are great at the location near me, and they seem to have just about any fastener you might imagine and then some.
