Best rear filler panel for cars with sidepipes
#21
I filled in the corners on my 69 and purchased a new filler panel for the center. I made lips that came up on the inside to bolt to the panel in case it needed to be removed ever.
The glass is finished much better where it bolts up when I was done but forgot to keep taking pics all the way through the process.

In the process of filling mine in myself. You can't really tell from this photo but there is a lip on the valance 'patch' and there will be on the quarter. Still a bit of work left. Used foam to build a backing plate to lay the glass on.

Hi R,
Yes, that's the most reversible method, in my mind.
I feel though that a good bit of work was done to get the very good fit that appears in that picture. I also feel that it's unlikely that you could just unbolt the new valance and bolt in the old valance and still have a very good fit.
This is something I've played around with since 1971, and all the methods I've seen have their strengths and weaknesses.
I also got hung up on the idea of what would it have looked like from St. Louis if the option was still available in 1971... both from the rear of the car and from underneath... and duplicating that.
I've spent WAY to much time thinking about this over the years. The crazy/stupid part is I'm considering going back to under car exhaust for my car's 40th birthday. It makes me half sick to think about cutting the quarters.
Regards,
Alan

The Eklers panel I recieved came in another venders box . The fit was so poor I sent it back same day .
I then took a piece of foam core materiel that I use in boat construction
and glassed it on each end to the original panel and carefully shaped it to fit leaving a seam so it can be removed if need be.
