Default BB Intake #3947801 L-36

BB Intake #3947801 L-36
This is an oval port aluminum intake used on a ('69 427/390 I think)

My understanding is that this is a direct swap for my 71 LS5 Cast Intake #3955287 with a Q Jet
Also that this is the ONLY Aluminum intake that will fit under the stock BB Hood besides the Torker2

Is this all correct?
Is this a direct swap and will there be any issues (brackets not lining up, fittings, clearance, etc.)

The more responses the better Ill feel about forkin over the dough for one!!!
Thanks!

I'd have to go out to the garage & dig out my manifold to confirm the part number. I do know that the L36 intake & the Torker2 are indeed the only aluminum intakes that fit under the stock BB hood. How much are the L36 intakes going for these days?

Actually there are 3 that will fit; all are either 68 or 69 Corvette.

The 801, 793 and the 849. I think they are early 68, late 68 and 69.

All alum low rise with Q-jet mounts.

I did this swap about 3 years back and it's pretty straightforward. The only real issues I had from swapping it out with my stock LS-4 intake was the divorced choke setup, you'll probably have to go with the 68-69 setup depending on what year your L-36 intake is, and the other was the bypass hose on the water pump had to be tweeked a little. For some reason on my application the L-36 hose connection sits back a bit farther but I still got it to work. Oh yea one more issue, is the L-36 intake ran some odd carb gaskets with the exposed heat crossover, but they are still available.

Mike,
I hadn't even considered it actually. It's not like I'll ever use it again but I figured I'd keep it in case I ever had to sell the car- God forbid! If you get a fix on the market for them just let me know & we'll take it from there.

Len, For many years before I went with Project RamJet, I ran the 69 stock aluminum low rise intake manifold with the 800cfm Holley spreadbore carb List #6213 and a low profile foam air cleaner on the 70 454 with the stock BB hood. I couldn't find a drop down air cleaner base that fit that carb back then. That setup worked pretty darn good between Holley carb rebuilds Then I got smart and converted to MPFI and never looked back. Still have the intake and carb out in the garage That old setup with the new Holley Hi Tek Air Cleaner would be slick and I think it would work under the stock BB hood......no problem, don't you think?

Old Holley Street dominator is 1/8 inch lower than torquer2. It is single plane but looks a better design than the Torquer2. Much like a smaller runner, low rise, oval port version of the famous Strip Dominator. Im reworking one to use on a rec port head motor.

Yeah Bob, that's what I'm considering now. These old carbs can be a burden. Who's MPFI did you go with? Easy to setup? I know Zwede has a nice setup that still ustilizes the L-88 air chamber..

If something happened to me, my wife & daughters would never be able to get the car running. I'm stongly leaning toward a get-in start her up and go setup.

The 1971 LS-6 engine would have a low rise aluminum intake for a Holley but that would only apply to square port intakes and heads using the stock BB hood
