Originals pop up on ebay every once in a while. Difficult to find in nice condition unless you NOS as the exhaust gases just eat them up. I found a nice pair last year at a good price.

I got a pair off eBay recently for $25 shipped. The 43 was in excellent condition but the 44 was severely pitted. They came from two different cars. All that are eBay right now are NOS at OUCH! prices.

Thanks!

I've got the original set from my 73, but they are rough. My price would reflect that condition though. PM me your email, and I'll send some pics when I get home tonight. We can go from there.

Thanks, Matt. I already have two rough ones, I mean so heavily pitted that I tried to copper wire brush them then sand them with 220 grit. The pits won....more pits than chrome. How bad is your rough ones?

Hey SS

Quick question. Have you had any issue with fit? I have a 1972 and the bezels are missing and I bought aftermarket from Ecklers and they were no where close to the right fit. Any ideas? Or have you run across this? Thanks Bagger

Bagger, I currently have stainless on mine that were installed by my Corvette mechanic and he never mentioned that it was ill fitting. I have a nice pair of original bezels that I need to install since I now have both sets of original rechromed 1st Design and 2nd Design tips. Besides, I discovered that the mufflers were reverse installed so the tips are installed wrong. DOH!

Hi Scott,

I had librandis in PA re-plate my originals. They were in pretty decent shape but did need to have a few pits repaired. They cam four beautiful. They will be used for judging only since exhaust gas tears them up. I use the stainless steel for driving along with stainless tips.

Now if they would only come up with a nice license plate bezel made from stainless steel.

Kind Regards,

Bill

Okay, I am interested. Would you send photos to ss396t6@sbcglobal.net? If they look good enough to replate how do you want to be paid?

Thanks,
Scott

What tears them up is not cleaning them after each use. We all forget. True that the exhaust residue builds up but also the moisture which combines to pit and erode the tips and bezels. The bezels being pot metal hardly any plater will guarantee the plating. Most refuse to do them. My plater in Fort Worth knows the GM flash chroming method of the '60s and '70s.
