Default 72 Corvette 454. Looking for the Oil pan drain plug please

I own a 72 Corvette 454. Looking for the Oil pan drain bolt please.
I had a bear of a time removing the bolt to change the oil, and the head has now become rounded. I do not think it was original, had a part making of M47.
let me know please you can PM me or vadelsohn@cogeco.ca

If it is the original pan it is a 9/16" hex head. Correct ones had an A within a circle. Some had a small A, some were larger. To be on the safe side do your own research on the correct headmark.

Default Corvette drail plug "A"

I saw a few on E-bay, some the A is on top of the bolt, others the A is sitting in a concave or reservoir, hard to explain, so not sure what is correct?

On eBay there is one with the indented head with the built-in washer. It says "Used original....A oil drain plug #1". Just be sure that it is 9/16" if your oil pan is original. You have to buy a nylon sealing washer for it.

72 as stated had small recessed flanged hex head. Original headmarkings for 72 are A A in a circle, D L RSC and a few more. I have several originals 25.00 each

Exactly what the 1970-1972 JG states but headmarks weren't addressed. Several manufacturers supplied them so that is why there are several headmarks. Do you have the nylon washers? Send me photos of yours, please! To: ss396t6@gmail.com

What you are stating is the 72 Corvette 454 oil pan drain plugs can have a A, or L, or RSC
stamped on the head bolt correct?

Yes. Some more common than others.

Very nice collection of examples of those. Does $25 cover shipping?

Vic, toward 1972 the plug that Enoch shows in his last photo was becoming common on various bolts on the engine. It appears to be an 8 but often referred to as dogbone. But any of the ones in Enoch's photos are correct. Your choice.

By the way, you mentioned it being very difficult removing the plug. Hopefully the threads are still intact and not altered if the plug was incorrect.

Thanks, 3.50 to ship. That's actual cost. Thanks, Rich.
