Let me answer some questions I have received on my posting.

1) The handle and bar on the front of this chassis is a turning bar that I installed so both front wheels will turn in the same direction for loading onto a trailer. I do have the stock linkage for the front non power steering but have not prepared it (cleaned and restored) for installation.

2) Yes I will consider parting the frame is there is no one interested in taking it as a total rolling chassis. After this much work goes into a chassis you hate to see it get pulled apart but if need be it can be. I will give the chassis about 30 days on the forum before moving it to eBay Motors. It has not been listed on local Craig's list but that will happen shortly.

3) Gas tank can be removed and sold if someone wants that alone. It has the protective tank cover on it and new sending unit installed.

4) Rear differential is a 3.36 gear completely rebuilt by Bair's Corvette. If I part the chassis this will be removed and sold separately for much more than I am asking as a complete chassis.

5) Trailing arms will not be removed unless i part the chassis. Again, they are rebuilt and in great shape so they will sell for much more than I am asking in this complete packaged chassis.

6) The hood in the picture is from a 1971 Steel Cities Gray automobile, not this 76. I have not posted it for sale on the forum at this time but if there is interest I can list it.

Keep the questions coming and I will do my best to get them answered.

Best regards,

David Howard

Very nice work on this! I will be using your pics to help get my '77 back in order. Price is good...I'd be shocked if it doesn't sell, sir.

Later,

Thank you Lee, I appreciate the thoughts. I love working on this 76 Chassis. When this one finds a new home I have a 77 Chassis sitting in the wings that I will strip down and restore. Fun stuff. Thanks again for looking and commenting.

Default Future 77 Chassis Project

77 Chassis and 75 Body sold and moved to new home today.

Here is the 77 chassis project sitting on my driveway waiting for it's turn at the "restoration" phase of its life. Can't wait to dig into this one.

Price adjusted back to $3,000.
I want it to sell, but I don't want to give it away.
Thank you for looking.

I gotta say, from the personal experience of presently re hashing my entire rear suspension, this thing is a pretty awesome deal.

Im sure you dont "need" any help unloading this, but I just wanted to comment on what a great foundation at a great price this looks like, for the person that has the space to do the whole job.

I agree...it's a terrific price on a solid foundation to get a C3 rolling that much quicker on the road to recovery. Beautiful work on this one, David.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the compliments. I keep getting offers far below my asking price but if I get someone serious with cash in hand I may let it go for a song. After all, it is the Holiday and I still have the Christmas spirit...for a few more days anyway.
Thanks again.

You're getting lowballed on this??? Wow...I think it's worth what you're asking but what do I know, ya know? Amazing...

AFTER CAREFUL CONSIDERATION AND DISCUSSION WITH SEVERAL OF MY FELLOW CORVETTE FORUM MEMBERS I AM GOING TO CHANGE MY PRICING AGAIN ON THE 76 CHASSIS. HERE IS THE BASIS FOR THE CHANGE.

The wheels and tires – at least $400
The differential – rebuild cost was $595 plus the new 3:36 gears. Resale is $900.
Rotors - $50 each/$200
Trailing arms rebuilt with exchange to rebuild - $700
Rebuilt upper and lower control arms - $250
That is over $3,100 right there and there are many more parts-

New front springs
Half shafts
Front hubs
Steering knuckle
Dust shields
Gas lines and blocks
Rebuilt gas tank
Brake lines
Proportioning valve
AND – the frame itself which was cleaned, sanded, and coated with POR15.

Yep, price is back up to $3,000. I'm still losing money but my loss is someones gain.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the clarity.

Best regards,

David Howard

David, I cannot disagree with your thinking - I think that is a good price already. there is a place here in NC that used to sell rolling chassis (w/ core) for $9000.

I am curious, do you buy parts to learn how to restore them and then sell them for cheap?

Good guess Pete. I started this hobby in 2006 and as those that know me well will tell you I have an real thirst for learning new and interesting things. I started learning on my first 77 in 2006; learned more with my second 77 in 2008; and more than I ever could have imagined with my 1971 called Sparty. I did sell both of my 77's and I broke even on them but learned a lot. My 71 is a part of the family now and will not be sold. What I learned from doing the frame off project (sparty) I have tried to use to take good parts and restore them to a level that people want them to use on there restorations. My thought has always been restore your own if you can, restore a donor if you need to, but reuse original parts whenever possible.

I love spending time working on the Corvette parts and use that as an escape from the stresses of my work. I have restored aluminum wheels; steel wheels; chassis frames; and many other parts. I have custom built cowling covers, manual cowling sheet metal for TKO transmission, front end steering guide for rolling chassis, and developed a way to remove a C-3 body from the chassis using just one person and my Bendpak lift. Anyway, once an engineer, always an engineer I guess. I love to know how things work and then I improve upon them if I can.

I like what I do, especially when it helps out another Corvette owner in the Corvette Forum community. I know, it means I am weird, but that is just what I like to do.

Next up are a series of parts I have wanted to play with including headlight assemblies that I will be rebuilding soon. I also have seats that I will be restoring and a gear box that I want to rebuild internals on and clean and paint the exterior. I also have a couple of non tilt/tele steering columns that I want to see if I can learn more about how to make them more desireable. And I have played with the seat tracks for various years and have learned how to restore them pretty nicely to move freely and look great again. There is far more, but I don't want to bore you furhter.

So that is it. I do buy some parts, clean them up, learn how to restore them, then make them available at what I consider to be fair pricing. Even if I break even I got an education for free, so that isn't all bad.

Thanks for asking and I hope this answered your question.

Best regards,

David Howard

Rolling chassis price reduced to $2,500 because I need the space back for another project in the works. My loss is your gain. First come, first served. Thank you for looking.

Thanks to you all for looking but I have had no interest in the rolling chassis and I need the space back so I will part this one out and sell off the items I have. I will post a new listing soon with the parts to be sold from this chassis and I do appreciate the support but this one needs to come apart.
Thanks for looking and best regards,
David Howard

Dang, this is sad to hear that no one is going to jump on this! If I already didn't have my own project going on in my garage I would have jumped on this immediately! Good Luck!
