70 parts wanted
I am looking for an original alternator part # 1100884 (reasonably priced) and an original rear spring for my recently purchased 350/350hp A/C convertible. A complete rebuildable alternator core is ok. Please let me know what you have .
Thanks

I will say it again I am not desperate and I will definitely find one for my budget or less. I have sought out other much more difficult parts over the years for earlier cars and have always found what I needed (at a reasonable and fair price) no matter how hard (or impossible) others thought that the parts were to find.
Maybe it is the lazy people needing parts that make these sellers believe that they can gouge on prices. Yes that is it and I am not lazy.

Hey Jay!
Good luck in the search. I am on your side and believe you may find in your range, someday. I found my 68 L79 carb (7028219 DG) for 50 bucks! I called hundreds of carb shops and one day ( I forget who) I got a call from a shop who said they found a "cruddy one" and now it is restored to show and sits in my 68. These regularly sell of over 1k.
Having said that, I think the majority who know what this alternator is, is not going to let it go cheap. The last 882 (or 884) I saw sell for on the web was $900 for a non working core. Do an Ebay search on completed /sold listings. I think your best bet is to take it "out" of the "corvette" market and search the rebuilders and "non corvette" swap meets.
Just a thought and good luck! I hesitate though to call it "gouging". Worth is what the market brings. If someone is (and they are) willing to spend over a grand for an alternator, and I know this, why would someone sell it for much less?
I think you may get a better deal than current worth here...but it still may be over your budget. So, again, try the rebuilders, it worked for me, and be patient!
Take care

Thanks for you comments. I know where three are right now that are priced 600,700, and 800 dollars each. They are all three rebuilt or guaranteed to work and none of the three of them have found buyers. "Why" because there is very little demand for that alternator. My point was that the previous comments made and supported by others in this thread about adding a 1 to my budget was a " stupid" comment made by uninformed members. Yes I agree that there are people with them that think that they have something special but in reality the buyer that they are looking for is more rare than the alternator that they are trying to sell. I am glad to see that at least one person (yourself) understands most of what I am saying except for the gouging part. Just to make my point I have a guaranteed original 53 gas cap in excellent original condition that I will sell for $1,800. That is also gouging but if someone wants to buy it I will be glad to sell it to them today.
