Hi,
Just for the asking..I've got a fully pro rebuilt ( never hung) 4:11 dated 68 (Code FB) including Heavy Duty side yokes/caps.Has the small front yoke, but have the later one that I can swap over to fit your 79.
..that's if 4:11 is manageable.
Rgds

4:11 Rear
Hi Jim
The 4:11 gearing is a little too steep for my needs. I use the car as a daily driver as well as at the strip. We spoke a few months ago about a rebuilt unit with a more economical gear ratio. Are you able to put together a 3:73 rear, or maybe a 3:56???
I look forward to your reply,
Lee

Hi Gordon,
I spoke with my mechanic today and he suggested that an exchange unit would be both more cost and time efficient. My mechanic, Jim, would rebuild the unit for me, but it would only save me about $200 and would make the job take an unbearably long time. I ran a 13.27 at ATCO raceway before I blew the rear.

Hi Lee,
Good to hear from you.
All I have left at the moment is a '68 4:11 that I mentioned as well as one other 65 4:11.
Just not much happening with Corvette rears until the snow falls and the projects get under way.
I must have moved nearly 30 untis last year and most were 3:36 with a few 3:55's and even fewer 3:70's.
Brgds

I might be interested in one of those 3:55's or 3:36's if you come across one.
Thanks,
Lee

rear end gears
FYI for you guys, 3.90 gears are as low as you can go without changing the carrier, 4.11 and down take a thinner flanged carrier.
I have a whole rebuilt punkin for sale for $375, THE GEARS ALONE ARE $210 FROM SUMMIT,BUT THEY ARE 3.08 . Anyway if any body can use a good road gear there it is. thanks.

I am interested in your 3:08 punkin. What all was put in to it for the rebuild, and how much to ship to Haddonfield, NJ 08033?
Thanks,
Lee

3:73 rear end
i have a used one that needs a rear cover. when i took it out of my car it was working but would occasionaly pop when turning sharp corners at low speed. i think new fluid would cure that. if interested e-mail me at bmorris@bullets.net and i can send pictures and answer any other questions you may have.thanks bernie morris

Lee,
Just to reaffirm that you are in fact looking for 3:70's (10:37 tooth count)?..GM gears are not 3:73's...perhaps aftermarket.
Original GM gears are 2:73,3:08,3:36,3:55,3:70,4:11,4:56.

Tom's 373 are stronger then stock, if you're going to drag race the car be sure to use the solid clutches, 10-17 heat treated spider, and steel cap.
