Default Parents' 1977 Corvette is staying in the family

My dad passed away in February and my mom decided that I needed to pick one of his cars for my own, as well as my wife and two kids. I claimed his 2008 Corvette convertible (black, manual), my 24 year old son picked his e90 M3, my 19 year old daughter is taking the '65 Mercury Comet Caliente 4-speed and my wife picked his '67 Ford Fairlane GT. I also told Mom that I would buy their '77 Corvette, but she said I could just have it. So now, in addition to the '71 convertible that I've owned since 1996, I have a '77.

It's a base model with an automatic. My dad bought it new for my mom as a daily driver, but she didn't feel comfortable driving it because she couldn't see very well out of it (she's 4'11"). I drove it a bit in high school, enjoying the handling, but it was a lot slower than my modified '77 Trans Am W72. Dad and I took a couple of road trips in it, so I have some good memories from that. Fast forward to 2023, and the car has about 20,000 miles on the odometer.

I need to get it out on the road and see if it needs anything. The interior and exterior are in great condition. The car has never been driven in the rain. Mechanically, it starts right up and has a solid idle. It's been a couple of years since it was driven, so I'll go through all of the fluids. The brakes were done three years ago. It's nice that I know the platform so well thanks to 27 years of ownership of my '71, having done everything from the suspension to building the engine. Should be fun bringing it back to life as an occasional driver.

Cool post. I’d recommend checking the date code on the tires. If they’re more than a few years old, I’d replace them. Enjoy the ride.

I also am so sorry to hear of your Dads passing. It'll be me one day.
lots can be done with the performance of a 77. Glad to hear it's staying in the family.
Please take care of her.

Sorry for your loss...
Just a FYI...
That is the 2nd design or Late 1977 so ordering things like T-Top weather stripping and wiring are different than 1st or early 1977.
I see the car still retains the original WA. plates! also have mine.
68-77 used the same stamped Washington font and in 78 the Washington font stamping was smaller & crisper...
In 1977 Washington State also adopted the month tab where previously ALL tabs expired December 31st of each year...
