By all means use rubber mounts. I made this change on my 71 and it made a huge difference in ride quality

I did my outer front fender wells w/Por15 and topcoated w/semi flat black paint

which gives you a rockhard surface. Been 20 yrs since i did it and no chips after 60,000 mi

and makes it easier to wipe off dirt etc. I also coated the complete rear shell w/Por15 including above the gas tank,

no need to topcoat that as it never sees the sun. Also Por15 on the frame and parts, after 20yrs no peeling or flaking, love the stuff.
