Default 82 Collectors Edition Question

Starting to look for a C3. Would really prefer a mid 70s. Looked at a 82 Collectors edition, 93k miles. Everything works and car looks great. Probably get it for 15k. Just don't know much about the Cross Fire. Any comments about this one?

You will see lots of prior threads on CF fuel injection -- some love; some hate; some ignorant. I have a '82 and my CF has not caused me any issues at all - runs great. If it does screw up, the shop manual has a whole section on how to diagnose by checking voltages and pressure, etc. CF is basically a two throttle body injection scheme with a ridiculously small intake manifold that was put on there to help EPA stats. Buccaneer (a forum member) once sold a better manifold but he has not had them available for a long time. In fact his shop XFire Performance has good info and products. I personally like the looks and feel of the '82. Just my two cents!

Thanks for the info. What do you think about the price? Here's a pic.

Here's a pic underneath. Don't know if that bad for a 41 year old car or not.

It may just be the picture but the accents in the cove and on the hood look too dark. Either it’s been repainted or it’s a CE clone. Would need to see up close.

Here the link with all the photos. I'm going to look at it Friday if he still has it.

That is how they are supposed to look with fading stripes

YUP those stripes are painted on, dont look bad but not the original OEM "fade" look.

Still a decent price for the car if all else works well

I asked the same crossfire question when I was looking, some people love them and like the challenge of maintaining them... Others don't want to learn 40 year old electronic systems and deal with obsolete and hard to get parts. I'm an electronics tech from that era and could handle the tech but I found a CE with a nice new crate in it so the issue was solved. Those graphics were just like decals and they split and crack with age, yours are repainted or somehow replaced, they are available. I imagine the whole car was, I can't see how they could remove the old stripes and repaint them without spraying the car. The guy who did mine actually sprayed them on and faded them, its a perfect job and I have a video of him doing it... That is an OK price for that car, real nice originals bring low-mid 20's. I was looking at your pics, I noticed the drivers side lower Aframe has surface rust, the passenger side does not, not sure it means anything I just notice and look for odd things... good luck...

Make sure it has the multi color interior and the rear window opens. It's hard to tell through the window but interior does not look correct.

I like CFI also, but I'm a little biased and have had my 82 for over 30 years now and it runs well.

It does have several shades of gray on the door panels. You can click on the CL link above and it shows the interior.

Also check the Ttops - they should be a bronze look and not smoke or dark tinted. Very hard to find and $$$$$$ when you do, many replace them with the more available and cheaper versions when one breaks.

Nothing in those pictures would make me run away and appears to be a nice example. I have owned 65 to 77 Vettes over the years and if I was in the market for another C3 it would be an 82. Good luck on Friday, I think the asking price is fair for this car.

Get the VIN, the 6th and 7th digit should be 07, if it's 87 then its a std. coupe.
The interior pics are low quality, compared to the exterior which are really crisp, the rear window does appear to have the black caps for the hinges if you enlarge the photo.... Some of the pics of the windshield show decals on the passenger side, some don't, some pics show the rubber front valance and at least one have it missing, hard to tell with shadows. Is the dash pad cracked or is that just some protection from the sun? Its been for sale since at least Christmas judging by the lawn ornament in one pic.

I would have my radar on full blast when I looked at this one and I'd have 12K cash in one pocket and a couple k more in the others...for bartering.... It's been for sale 8 months.....

the underside is honest, nobody went under there with a can of undercoat and tried to hide stuff. BUT, you need to look closer. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ispreloading=1 roll down to post 107. read up on the rust issues and go look at the car having decided ahead of time it is a POS and you hate it. and you are trying to find things to reinforce your opinion that it is worthless. let the car convince you you are wrong. you don't know crossfire. few do. are you an efi guy or a carb guy? or are you an I pay somebody else when it breaks guy. cuz the xfire is efi.

agree with advice.. now that i see the one pic under that to me is VERY rusty on components that cannot be good elsewhere..
full rust inspection warranted..

CL ad was placed 21 days ago, if you look at all the ad pictures they were taken at different times of the year (look at the grass). I think the seller just picked the top 10 best pictures off his computer.

Another positive is the frame crossover (for lack of a better tern) is not smashed as most are from floor jacks. Pass side lower A-Arm has been worked on or it would appear from its appearance based on the driver side. Not a concern just an observation.
