Since I always loved trains and worked on the railroad for 35 years, I have been collecting these types of pictures. Here are a few more.

so My uncle used to work for Speed transportation , which did a lot of shipping for the nearby tonawanda engine plant. He told me a story he heard at work about a train derailment accident that involved train cars full of corvettes, apparently one of the train cars full of vettes was damaged so they dug a large hole and destroyed and buried the vettes onsite somewhere along the tracks to prevent any liability from anything on those cars from being reused or repaired... I dont know how true the story is but it stuck with me for some reason.. He also used to tell me about all the brand new engines they would cut up at work to prevent salvagers using them and throw in the dumpsters at work. one time they "found a trailer of complete big blocks that had been misplaced, they apparently were part of a large batch that had been found to have some sort of faulty component on them so My uncle watched them being cut up and dumped in the dumpster. they also apparently have a secured scrapping contract to prevent people from picking the stuff out of the dumpsters

But who owns THESE now? Arguably, one of the biggest mysteries in Corvette history... '69 BB 427/390 coupes originally leased to the Apollo 12 astronauts for $1 per year! I'd take the deal any day of the week!

Only ONE of the three pictured here are accounted for. Alan Bean's is owned by Danny Reed; however, the other two, sadly, are unaccounted for. The urban myth is that they may have been destroyed. Say it isn't so!

And another great trio! The three Apollo 15 astronauts (James Irwin, Al Worden and David Scott) coordinated and had direct control of the color of each of their vehicles to match a patriotic red, white, and blue theme. Pretty cool! Danny Reed also owns the white one (Al Worden's) and the blue one (David Scott's), BTW. Who knows where the remaining one is.....Like the Apollo 12 cars, not all have been recovered.

The Apollo 12 astronauts coordinated and had direct control over that design and color on each of their cars, which symbolized their role as well as the color assigned to each of them on the mission/spacecraft. Just about everything was color coded for the mission. Even their food was color coded!

Alan Bean - 'LMP' in blue square --Lunar Module Pilot. His gear for the mission was tagged blue
Pete Conrad - 'CDR' in red square -- Commander. His gear for the mission was tagged red
Dick Gordon- 'CMP' in white square -- Command Module Pilot. His gear for the mission was tagged white

I bet! For the Apollo 12 cars, only one original has been recovered though. The other two are MIA. Danny has two from Apollo 15 (Al Worden's and Dave Scott's), which is incredible. The remaining three (total from Apollo 12 and 15) are unaccounted for. For one guy to have half of the six astrovettes from Apollo 12 and Apollo 15 is just unbelievable. Lucky man. He's always on the lookout for the remaining cars, so that tells you they are very much still missing.
