I have a 1971, 454 with what appears to be a factory installation. The fuel filter fitting comes straight forward from the carb as opposed to pointing to the right side. The rigid fuel line looks correct and is one piece from the carb to fuel pump. The carb ID is 7042251 which would be right for a 1971 installation.
Possible?
Rochester Quadrajet Identification

70 ( pre 1976 ) 42 ( 1972 ) 2 ( 49 state ) 5 ( Olds ) 1 ( usually odd number is manual trans )

1972 Olds 455

Post a picture if you can.

No it is not possible. Your carb should be 7041204 Automatic or 7041205 Manual Trans

Each manufacturer in the GM line used their own carbs that were calibrated for the particular application . The specifications were sent to Rochester where an Engineering Master was built. This master was then approved by the GM manufacturer or sent back for revisions.
Quadrajets were in so much demand ( at that time ) that GM hired Carter Carburetors to produce these carbs also , so that there would not be any delays.
Below are pictures of Rochester built and Carter Built.
These are pictures of carbs that I have personally Restored to original specs. Thats what I do

Olds 1972

Chevrolet 1970

Rochester

Carter
