Default Dakota Digital RTX

Edited Feb 18/2023: Read to the end of this thread. Kudos to Dakota Digital for listening and redesigning the gauges.

Do NOT buy Dakota Digital gauges for a 1978 - 1982 Corvette. They would be awesome gauges, but you can't see the top 1/3 of the speedometer and tachometer due to them being too far back from the glass and blocked by the bezel. Your eyes need to be about 9" above the seat in order to see the entire speedo and tach.I spent thousands of dollars for amazing gauges that I cannot see. Dakota Digital really needs to redesign their gauges for 78 -82 Corvettes.

Wow, that sucks for such awesome looking gauges. Thanks for the heads up. I hope you've called and made your concern known. Not sure how they could do it, but hopefully somehow they make this right!

That sucks. At least the mph number readout is in a good spot.

Haha. It's actually worse than that. To see the gauge dial centred in the bezel, the driver's eye needs to be closer to the bottom rim of the steering wheel.

Interesting, I have installed Dakota Digital into several other types of cars with great success (no C3 though). In your opinion, where did they go wrong? their gauges are normally designed to to fit exactly like the originals into the original bezels.

How tall are you. The requirement in the owner's manual is max height for the driver is 5' 9".

They look awesome and I can see there not for C3, what a shame.

Great News! Dakota digital has agreed that the MTX RTX gauges have a viewing angle problem and are looking into re-engineering them! Looks like I will be taken care of. It will take them some time to produce and test the new prototype, but once I have the new gauges I will look into deleting this thread, as it will no longer be appropriate.

Totally different gauges for the 73 v 78. Bummer for me, was getting ready to purchase. What I don't understand, these have been around for years and now your the second person to point of the problem.

It would also be nice if they would delete the clock on 1982 year model and put the oil temp guage in its place like OEM

The HDX gauges are fine. It's the RTX that you should avoid.

Kudos to Dakota Digital for redesigning the rtx-78c-vet and mtx-78c-vet gauges! I just took the Corvette out for a first drive since having the redesigned gauges installed and the visibility of the top part of the gauges is vastly improved. Still not perfect for a tall driver like me, but at least acceptable. I'm 6'2", so I would think that drivers 6' and under would have no issue at all, and taller drivers can live with these gauges as they are now. Not so happy with the extra expense I incurred for having the gauges replaced, but still grateful to Dakota Digital for stepping up and fixing the problem. As the starter of this thread, I would like to change the title from Dakota Digital RTX - Don't Buy!, to Dakota Digital RTX - they fixed the problem! Does anyone know if this is possible? I have not been able to find a way to edit the title of the thread.

Ask a mod, they can handle this
