So hard to say by just looking at pics but this is my thought and would need a lot of more leg work to verify it but I think if you could assemble the car for $6000 you would definitely get that money back and then some.
By assembling it you will also increase your buyer pool by a significant amount. Project cars that need assembly get a significant discount in value whether justified or not and have a limited pool of buyers that would want to take that job on.
The corrosion in the back is odd looking at the rest of the car and really needs to be looked at much more closely to determine the severity. The hard top is a nice addition and just adds to the value of the overall car although many people don’t use them.
On a sidenote can anyone tell me what’s going on here? Those plug wires going over that odd looking vacuum canister for the wiper door???
what is that vacuum canister never seen one like that.
Ike

looks like a stain to me. Might be a tank leak. IF you guys think that a bad frame you never lived in an area that uses salt. Nothing is rotten until you clean off the survace flakes and hit it with a welding slag hammer to see if its solid. Ive seen a lot worse on here come out fine

i see a lot of the parts in boxes. Did the person bag and tag the nuts , bolts, screws? Absolutely hate taking over someone's partially completed project. never know if I need to start where they left off or go to the beginning and start over.

Well hard to keep up with this thread. In the first picture that I posted I almost looked square. The new pics show a correct vacuum canister that had been painted black.
Did they simply not finish plugging in the wires or are they off for some reason? That’s an issue with these kinds of deals. Lots of unknown history and that’s why project cars have a great discount.
It adds to your complications. You could assemble everything and not be able to get it running without adding more and more cash. Ike

the problem with flash pictures is it makes the rust look alot worse than itis. Makes dirt look like rust as well. Since this car is apart...I would say its completely apart as I have had mine more disassembled than this just fiddling with stuff during the winter. Heck if you ever work under the drivers dash you have to pull all that crap out just to get under the dash...but this would be a good start to a frame off. I would blast and powder coat that frame and just restore it and sell it as an origianl 68 with the 51000 miles. I havent seen anything that isnt looking like it isnt original GM so it could be a great start for someone.
Can you shine a light or stick your phone in the gas lid whole and take pics of the top of the tank...there could be a sticker in there still

hey while its apart and you can get under it grab a can of PB Blaster and hose down the frame and everything that bolts together. Letting penetrating oil soak into the frame and the rusty bolts is only going to help out you or the next guy. Do the brake lines and anything that moves as well

With any engine you get you want to start over...atleast get it apart and see if it has new bearings with no wear, good hone ..At a minimum check the timing chani and cam to see if they are still in good shape....etc...
usually good advice
too bad the tankis gone...I had the same issue

i said earlier. many guys on here will happily take this project on. i think 20k as-is is a win-win to everybody. worth 40 to 50 finished and pretty. would take 20 to 30 to get it there...

Interested in the car....please post if you decide to sell the car. Bring A Trailer is also a really good way to market the barn find car nationally...

Thanks for all the help and advice guys. The car is sold. I'm happy and he's happy. It's a friend of mine so I'm excited that I'll get to see it when it's all done. And he's a good dude so hopefully he'll go take the first owner for a ride.
