Default 1970 ZR1 Wheels

According to the Corvette black book the 1970 ZR1 Corvett option is suppose to be delete option PO2 deluxe wheel covers. Every picture or ZR1 on aucti I have seen has the delxue wheel covers on supposed factory original cars. I believe deluxe wheel covers means trim rings are missing and only center cap is on the wheel. Also what color are the rims suppose to be?

You'll likely get more and better responses from the C3 section.

All of the real 70 ZR1''s I have seen for sale have center caps and trim rings. I have seen LT1's for sale with P02's though. Can you post examples of 70 LT1's with the RPO ZR1 option that have P02's?

I can't find any. Is the black book correct or are ZR1 owners, the few that exist, just putting them on because the look better? I have a toy model from AMT and it says if you are building a ZR1 with the LT1 engine put on open rims NOT the deluxe wheel covers?

I n your first post you mention that all ZR1 cars have P02's at auctions. Can you send me links to those cars because every ZR1 I have seen have factory rally wheels with center caps and trim rings. Are you sure you aren't confusing 70 LT1's with ZR1's?

Any ZR1 I have seen at Auction all have Trim Rings and Center Caps. I have seen many LT-1s with PO2

If you ordered option PO2 you didn't get trim rings or center caps...

I am confused period. I am a C4 guy so my understanding about wheel covers on C3 is very limited. Today I found out deluxe wheel covers are the wire type hub caps optioned on all C3s expect ZR1. I was not aware rallye wheels covers were the STANDARD wheel covers on all 1970 Corvettes. I am learning but slowly.

Yep, run of the mill steel rallies as standard with optional PO2 full hubcaps mounted over top of them – up until '73 when aluminum wheels became additional wheel option YJ8. (The option was listed for '73 but porosity problems delayed true release until '76, so there were only 4 installed sets in '73, zero in '74 & '75.) Interestingly, the '74s and '75s had no wheel cover option like PO2 and only the rally with center caps and rings was provided.

  • When the ZR1 or ZR2 option was ordered, the following options were not available on the 1970, 71 or 72 Corvette: Power Windows (A31), Rear
  • Window Defroster (C50), Air Conditioning (C60), Power Steering (N40), Deluxe Wheel Covers (P02), Alarm System (UA6), AM
  • FM Radio (U69), AM-FM Radio, stereo (U79).
PO1 were a 1968 only option a few very early 1969 have been observed with PO1 wheel covers. From 1969 till 1973 PO2 were an available option
