Big boys and C3s - 450lb?
My '82 door sticker says 450lb weight limit for people. So....just wondering, what happens when ya go over this? I think Americans may have grown some since 1982!

Ha! I am right about 200lbs so all good, but I do have big friends who probably come in around 250lbs or so. Just wondered what happens when you go over weight? Does it bottom out suspension? Rear? Front? Both? Have trouble cornering? Seats fall through the floor?

Nowhere Man beat me to it. Can you envision Shaq trying to squeeze into a C3??? I think one of his rides is a vintage [full-sized] Caddy with the rear seat removed and the front seat moved 1-2 feet rearward!!

the 68 has a 250lb rating for the all fiberglass floor. I looked it up a while back because my buddy is about 230lbs. He hasnt gone through the floor, but if he does, you'll be third person to know

I was kind of hoping someone had a tale to tell. It is the combined passengers weight of 450lb that surprised me. That is not as unattainable as one might think. Two husky farm boys and you'll hit it in Indiana!

Ant 450 pounder won't get behind the wheel. Although, the last time I was in Kindig's place Kevin showed me a late C2 roadster they were stretching 4 - 6 inches for an oversized owner so who knows.

It is the COMBINED limit for all occupants of 450lbs that got me to questioning. I weigh 200lbs. I know of a few 250lb folks who easily would fit in the passenger seat. Just wondering what happens when the car exceeds the 450lb limit.

I know for mid years the weight it is supported by the luggage stop behind the seats and over time if to heavy of loads are seen the rivet holes get egg shaped and the floor starts to sag until the u joints hits the floor. I think C3 are built the same in that area.

HAH!!! I would NOT have guessed... . . .
Seriously though, does anyone really care about these things? Its not gonna be a huge issue, unless maybe you and your buddy are a tag-team wrestling duo, or your wife weighs 400lbs, or maybe you and your wife total 600lbs... which sadly is not uncommon these days. I'd say if thats you then maybe you should spend more time at the gym than driving in a Corvette. Besides, these are old cars now. Unless you're severely abusing these restrictions, i'd wager these cars have already 'settled' as much as they're going to. Unless you and your 250lb bud commute 20000 miles a year in this thing, i'd say you're safe.
That said... there was a guy here, back in the 90's, he had a white 74-79-ish Vette (wasn't paying attention to C3's back then). He was at least 350lbs, maybe 5'10-6ft. He daily drove that thing for near a decade. Like, everywhere, even through the winter. It was fun to watch him get in and out, but he thought nothing ov it. He'd definitely spent a LOT ov time over that 450 limit too, as i dont know how... maybe it truly IS a chick-magnet... but that guy ALWAYS had a different hot chick in that passenger seat. Reading this, i wonder how that Vette looks today...

I agree it seems unlikely that reasonably exceeding 450lbs in people combined weight is going to hurt the car. I was surprised to see the door sticker. Who knows, maybe the limit was chosen not for structural concerns but rather as just one more thing to keep the mileage within EPA specs.
