Carbster09, did the center chrome section not move at all when you tried to turn it with a coin? You could probably even try a flat blade screwdriver to give you more leverage/torque.

ralph i tried it on my aftermarket locking cap and it does not work. maybe for once an aftermarket part thats better(for its intended purpose) than a genuine gm accessory part?

I tried on mine and it did not work. Perhaps because it is free and in my hand. I did notice that the vent hole in the vented gas cap is really just a straight-through vent hole, you can see right through it.

LOL!
One day by accident I used my ignition key on said lock. had to fiddle in and out a bit, finally got it just right and popped the cap off! Doh! Afterwords realized my mistake!
I decided it was not a good lock and simply replaced the cap with a non locking. Now no issues at all.

I see a real marketing ploy here.
Advertise a Corvette locking gas cap removal tool, sell it online for $5.00 plus shipping.
Slip a penny in an envelope and send it to the buyer.
Ingenious!

But the year of the penny has to match the yr of the car.

No problem.
Cheap business start up costs.
$100.00 in used, rolled pennies and some mailing envelopes.
Full return on initial investment with the first twenty sales.
Date stamped, numbers matching removal tools can be sold for $10.00.
Nice return!
