Default 1969 Underbody Metal Reinforcement finish

I bought all new under body reinforcements for my 69 coupe. I'm looking for what the correct original finish should be. They came black semi gloss from Paragon. I want to get them plated so they won't rust at all in the future. I considered Zinc but it would be too bright I guess. I'm also considering blackening. I'm sure they will end up "over restored" but I don't want them to get rusted at all in the future.

Black semi-gloss is the correct color and sheen. Here is a rattle-can option if you are looking for originality.

Frame is painted black semi-gloss. That isnot the same as black semi-flat. Semi-flat is also labeled as 'satin'.

I see that 7T1vette, my mistake. Very sorry. It is semi-gloss black as 7T1vette pointed out. I posted the wrong photo. Oh, and wrong link too.

Hope this helps a little.

Underbody Nut Plates

There are numerous sheet metal panels riveted to the underside of the body. These form mounting points for various internal body components such as the battery, battery cables, seats, jack and so on. All of these are dipped chassis black and held in place by aluminum rivets. The rivets are not painted. The seat belt anchor plates are cadmium plated. The rear seat anchor plate is a black phosphate while the front one is chassis black dip painted.

Very helpful information. I knew about the semi gloss for the frame. I know what black phosphate looks like. I don't know what the cadmium finish looks like though. I'll have to look that one up. Now, if I could only remember how to post pictures. I posted a lot on my other thread but just forgot. I'll look on here I think there are instructions.

Thanks for the help.

AH HA, now I recognize it. I didn't realize they did much Cadmium back in 1969. Thank you.

Here's everything I need to get plated or painted prior to install.

PJO, I see the Cadmium for the inner and outer seat belt reinforcements that's a huge help. Any other information on finishes would be appreciated.

Not home right now will be latter will look over your items you have pictured.

Everything else would be dip painted semi-gloss black other than. #4 can be black but also have seen them just silver cad plated. #5 inboard ones tend to be gray phosphate finish and the outer black painted. #6 if they are for the heat insulation blankets natural.

PJO, Thanks for the information. I have a friend that has access to all types of plating. I stalled out again on my project but this is one of the next steps I have to do.I'll send them out next week.

Have you checked the fit of those pieces ? Especially the outer bottom corner reinforcements (9) , my new ones were very bad and had to massaged to fit . Before they get plated ?

Mine don't fit well either. I will have to make a few adjustments before I send them out for plating.

BAZZA 77, I got everything "massaged" to fit as you suggested. Time to send them out for plating.

Can Cadmium plating be painted of if I use an etching primer? I was going to get most of it Cad plated then paint the ones that should be black. Just looking for a little extra protection.
