1969 Corvette Convertible Price/Inspection
Talked to the owner of this car today. He has owned the car for about 3 years but the major restoration was done prior to his ownership. It also has a crate motor installed by the previous owner. Current owner has put power disc brakes and replaced a lot of the suspension/bushings. No power steering or A/C.
Current owner does not have any records or pics prior to his ownership, which has me a bit concerned. He also has no pics and has never inspected the birdcage, which has me more concerned.
Non-Numbers matching, no power steering and no A/C is not important to me, but condition is. He is asking $34,999, which seems a bit high to me. At this price it would have to be in about perfect condition. I saw a few things in the pics, but looked pretty good overall. Hard to tell in pics though.
Thoughts on the car? Price?
I am in Ohio, anyone in NJ willing to take a peek?
Thanks in advance for the help!

Just another Corvette guy
Car looks good on top and the price is realistic. But, as you know, with a car from Jersey, it all depends on what the frame and bird cage are like.

Looks good in the pictures. Price too high for NOM. Mostly original otherwise, minus incorrect headrests, radio, small stuff underhood. If the frame is good, could work out with some negotiation.

Vetteuyer6369, Don't wish to highjack the thread, but what makes the headrest incorrect? Is it that they are made of multiple sections with seams?
Here is an image of mine re hey correct? Thanks

Just an observation and I know non-orig engine... but I don't think the console tag (L46 350 hp 11:1) matches the low tach redline.

Yes, ‘69 headrests should be a one-piece ‘molded’ look, no seams. Replacing worn originals is much easier and cheaper using incorrect replacements with seams.

Without getting into what the cars worth if I was dropping $34,999 on this NJ car I would have to personally inspect this birdcage and frame or hire someone to do that for me. I'm not talking a flashlight and a look see I'm talking the owner is going to pull a few interior panels. If he is unwilling to do that than I would question the deep condition of the car based on his lack or not forth coming past history of the car.
I just purchased a 90ish% original 73 with 43K for miles and got the story and paperwork to back up the history of the car all the way back to day 1 at the dealership when it was sold. Having owned ten C2/C3 over the years and a few frame off restorations I didn't feel the need to tear into this car when I inspected it. However, if I was going off the story of the car your looking at than I for sure would have dug deeper into the inspection. A set of trained eyes and good flashlight will uncover 90% of any issues on a first pass inspection, it's that 10% that will snakebite you if you're not careful. The metal on this car is 52 years old.

Thanks folks, I appreciate the insights. I agree inspecting the birdcage/frame is a must and the owner has stated he is willing to let someone inspect the car. It's logistically challenging with me being in Ohio and the car in NJ, but I love the color combo! The LeMans Blue looks pretty close to my 1999 Nassau Blue FRC. I bought that car in CA and had it shipped to Ohio, so I am not afraid to buy an out of state car, it's just hard during the pandemic. Do you guys know a good shop near Saddle River, NJ that could do an inspection? Any idea how much that would cost?

Safety Car
I sold my '69 vert a couple of years ago for 30K. 400/427 w/A/C, 3x2, side pipe car, replacement short block, both tops, new paint, sunbelt car (no rust) from new. This was a driver, but real nice. That car would need to be perfect for 35K. Definitely room to negotiate!
