Question of day, exhaust systems
My 81 has the stock , original exhaust system. Other than being rusty looking on surface seems to have no leaks. Would like to replace though with something that has more sound, assume you have to keep the catalytic converter on as well. Suggestions on who makes a good system to bolt on?

Check out corvette central. They have some nice bolt on exhaust systems. With or without cats. I have a complete dual system on my 79
and it fit great.

I like to drive my cars, don't care about it being completly stock for judging or resale. Sure some would say, its 100% stock now it must stay that way for the future value, my kids can worry about that! First goal, more sound from exhaust and better performance. I see that with the CCC system it affects carb, trans and emissions? by changing exhaust system and getting rid of the cat will the computer not like it? Anyone change the ECM to say a Hypertech unit? I know this car will never have big HP but would like a bit more. Thanks in advance for tips and suggestions

So talked with my guy at the muffler shop and he said of course they can't remove the converter if they don't have another one to put on. Laws in Michigan and so on would get him in trouble. Looking at new exhaust from Ecklers, pipes from engine, high flow converter, new pipe in back and then Magnaflow mufflers. That setup would use the smog like it is and keep everyone happy. Question for the day, If I go with no converter, do it myself will my computer throw a fit? Not looking to change from stock only update exhaust and more sound. Thanks

I have Magna flows on mine and I love it.👍
it’s nice and quiet at idle and has a nice sound at cruising speeds and a nice growl when you step on it

The problem with the 80-82 cars is the transmission crossmember. It only has a single dimple for a single pipe, unlike the earlier cars.
Fortunately, all of them are removable, and can be modified or replaced with an aftermarket crossmember.
My 79, the last year for the stock dual-pass-thru crossmember, had a non-stock true-dual exhaust system put in by a PO, including two cats (stock is one). This would be an expensive upgrade to duplicate, but you may be able to farm out the work if this solution works for your mechanic.
