Default Egg crate side vents

Those on 1970 to 72 vettes don’t seem to be reproduced and can’t find them for sale anywhere. While cleaning up my inventory I found a really nice pair of these vents, how much are they worth?

Thanks

I haven't had a set in about 10 years, but I was getting $250-$300 a pair for ones with decent chrome back then. I'd think somewhere in the range of $300-$350 for a decent pair today, would be fair. Maybe a little more if they're the 70 style egg crates.

They are worth whatever the next buyer is willing to pay. The more important question is, "At what price should they be offered for sale?" Clean them up and take good pics for your ad. If the chrome edges look good, stick a price of $400 for the pair and see what happens. Or, just put them up for bid and get what you can.

For the 70, 71, 72 the front grill works for the turn signals are being repro'ed and they sell for $700 each! Based on that, I'd want something similar for a set of side vent grills. In good condition, $1000 for the pair. These and similar trim pieces can be difficult to have re-chromed. Some are of an aluminum alloy and some chrome shops will not replate aluminum. Don't know if the side egg crate grills are zinc alloy or aluminum alloy.

As for the front grill work, if you're not a purist, you can replace this grill work with the 68, 69 Corvette turn signal grill works. These parts are plastic and still have the chrome surround pieces. They look nice and are reasonably priced. Only a early C3 owner would know they are not correct for the year. I was going to install the 68,69 turn signal assemblies on the 70 until I sprang for a new set of repro 70 grills. I have 68 tail lights on the 70....love those four big red tail lights.

Wow! Good prices. I have yet to list anything on eB, only been a buyer for 30 years. I’d be really happy to get anything above $350 for these vents. They have very nice chrome edges and are pretty heavy, I’ll have to look for a part number on the back tonight.

Thanks

You can ask for anything; but you will only get what the most fervent buyer will be willing to spend.

Yeah, hold on before you put a down payment on that new yacht, there are several sets available on eBay right now from $275 OBO:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Corvette-fe...temCondition=4

Up to $400:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Corvette-si...temCondition=4

Singles for $100 OBO:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-Corvet...temCondition=4

These are not very difficult to find used and, as you can see, most are listed with an "Or Best Offer".
If yours are in decent condition I would list them with an opening bid of $10 to get as many buyers on board as possible and whatever they bring is fair market value. Don't worry about them selling too cheap, there are a million guys shopping Corvette parts every day so they will bring a fair price.
Cheers, Greg

Hmmm, I have a decent pile of 70 and 71 Corvette parts that need to go. Looks like I need to learn how to become a seller on eBay, CList isn’t cutting it recently. Thanks for your help Greg & Richard454.

Some food for thought-

Thanks to ever increasing eBay fees- basically about 12-15%- and another ~3% paypal fees...PLUS they they get the sales tax- so the buyer ( like my state) gets nailed for another 8%.

AND unless you are "sponsored"- you can easily get left out on searches- having a store is cheaper- but there is monthly/yearly fee.

What do I recommend?

You can do a search on ebay for an item- then click on the 'sold' category. That will let you know what the real world price is- or close.

Put in on the Corvette Forum classifieds - FREE- you can drop the price to what you'd get on ebay after the fees- easy to negotiate.

Another easy button- is using USPS flat rate packages- ship anywhere in the world and know if it fits in the box- that's what it costs to ship- no calculating!!!

Save on headaches- the customers here are a LOT better!!! The buyer is happy with the deal versus paying fees too! Win-Win-Win

Richard, you are absolutely spot on regarding the USPS Flat Rate shipping boxes. Incredibly, they say you can ship anything that will fit into the box, up to 70 pounds which seems outrageously heavy. But, when I needed to ship a pair of cylinder heads across country a few months ago, I did exactly that. Of course I used about 10 rolls of their clear packing tape but they accepted them and shipped for lass than $20 each! Winner!
Best shipping deal in the country.
