A rather unique '69
I'm typically very tolerant of guys modifying their cars. This is just ridiculous though (to me). You'd think at some point whoever did it would have realized how awful it was going to look. Obviously it's the seller's car and he can do whatever he wants with it but once he puts it up for sale it's fair game for criticism. If somebody actually likes this sort of thing now's your chance. It's in Ontario and the 28K price is in CDN dollars so you'll automatically get about 10 grand off by paying with US currency. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars...5435?undefined

Yeah definitely nice wheels. Looks like the quality of the bodywork is pretty good too. But workmanship aside, that's a really bizarre looking Corvette. I've seen C3 station wagon conversions I'd prefer to have over that '69 and I don't like that type of mod at all. All I can say to guys doing shlt like this is stop it. Just stop it.

Suppose you can do whatever you want to your car. Not for me to judge. I am sure we all do things to ours that others would not.

Hey! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. 40 years ago, that would have been a car used for a cover shoot on a 'wheels' magazine.
Today? Not so much.... Lots of work to get that car into present configuration.
P.S. Didn't you ever have dreams of owning a RED Batmobile???

I hear you brother.... I think I am just worn out as I like to watch the corvettes auction on BAT.. But you gotta put up with every corvette know-it-all in the world try to express their superior knowledge by asking and stating silly things when they have no intention of purchasing.... This here is indeed different from that for certain!!!

The only things I don't like is the hood being cut for that scoop, and those sidepipe covers.
Other than that, I think it's pretty rad!

Mako-shark 2 'clone'
While we're talking about 40-50 years ago This was as MAKO-SHARK II as you could get. If it was black....we'd be acting differently!

Yes Unkahal, I'm surprised nobody else here recognized this Mako body kit.
It's odd the seller doesn't even make reference to this in his ad.
This is not just some guy's radical idea of custom work. These Mako body cars, with their tilt front ends, were the top of the custom food chain in the mid '70's. A friend of mine had one and, at that time, it put everyone else's Corvettes to shame (really).
It needs to be viewed in the context of time. For it's era, it was very cool, I wanted one badly. Today? mmmm, not so much. But you hit it right about the color. The Red is a real bad choice.
Painted properly in Black, Dark Gray or Midnight Blue with the lower body fade to white (like a shark) and this car would present much better.
I posted this customized '57 over on the C1/C2 board where it garnered much gnashing of teeth and rending of garments. But again, viewed in the context of period custom work, I have to say, I think this one was nicely done back in the 1960's and holds up well today.

I'm not familiar with the Mako body kits. I was thinking it was a one off. Even if it was a kit I'm still blown away by how much work it must have been. Don't have to like it to appreciate the effort.

[QUOTE=army;1602026619]Totally with you on this, brother.
I've come across many builds/customs that just leave me shaking my head. But, if the work involved shows a higher level of skill, I can appreciate the builders effort.
As a side note, of the several Mako bodied cars I actually saw back in the '70's, ALL of them were built from damaged cars.

Interesting (to me!) historical tid-bit.
We all know (or should know) that Shinoda,Haga, and Holls were basically responsible for the shape of our cars.
In the first go-around before production was approved, the fender peaks as shown on this car was REALITY...yep, they really were that tall!
In the last critical design review Beloved Zora made a big stink about how high the fender peaks were and how "you can't see out of the @#$% thing".
Henry Haga was responsible for cutting them down so that we may see.
Can you imagine life peering thru those...let alone the L-88 hood!

2020 C3 of the Year Finalist - Modified
John Silva actually lived down the street from me, I saw these cars on a regular basis and always wanted one. of his creations or kits. I did have one at one time but lifes issues caused me to sell. Too bad so many people dont know some of the history of how the C3 came about. Here is a great article if any one want to know more
