it didn't need enough welding for your taste...

Well, with all that said I actually decided to buy it. I was able to work a deal that seemed pretty reasonable so I am going to pick her up today. I actually like the look of the blacked out bumpers and the wheels and tires. It might not be to everyone's taste but I like it. Im sure she will need some more work but I kind of wanted a project car and from what I hear most, if not all, still need work no matter what you pay. She looks to be rust free and I have been down the road of looking at some pretty rusty cars. I did remove the kick panels and the windshield liner to check for rust and she looks to be solid.

did the seller do the paint? if so, get the remains of the can of paint. if not, get the paint store and color he had mixed. then get a quart or more of it. 2 different guys mix the same color and it probably won't be exact. hell, the same guy mixes the same paint 2 hours later it may not be exact. but same store same guy you have a better chance. this way when the wiper door and correct hood fall in your lap, you have best shot at matching it to the car. i contacted the guy with the red leather upholstery craigslist ad. he is willing to box it and ship it. it isn't mine. don't know him. it looks better than your seats. and they don't grow red cows. or black ones. all leather is dyed...

After you round up the paint, fix that fuel line by taking it all the way back to the stock configuration, including, if you don't have it, the S-shaped rubber hose. I don't know if 68's had them, but there should be a 1/4" return line back to the tank.

To find a complete running and driving chrome bumper much less the more desirable '68-'69 body style with driver quality paint and 4speed for $15K or less is a good buy.
Enjoy

" It had a new paint job that was good but not great..." That to me is scary. If they took shortcuts on the paint then what else did they not do well? Are you prepared to make a easy $10 to $15 K investment in a new paint job?? Pass and never look back and remember to buy the nicest car you can afford!! Ike

Congrats on your new to you Vette. I like the car & looks to be a great driver & you get to wrench on it. If your not comfortable stating how much you Paid that’s cool, but it would be of interest to us all.

he got a better deal than most who buy a running driving non-rusty chrome bumper vette. look at the pics of mount 2 in post 11. and he thinks it is a 25k car. yes it is a 454. pretty much unmolested. and not rotted out, but not far from it. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-it-worth.html

Think it was a "paint it resale red and flip it" deal? Almost looks that way...I wouldnt pay 15 too many little things wrong which screams project.

Some pay more for less, and some pay less for more......Most of us end up somewhere in the middle.....He likes it and he's happy with it......That's all that matters.

I just put her on jack stands and pulled the tires and I am super happy. This car is solid everywhere and after climbing around underneath with a screwdriver I cant find rust anywhere
