unless you pulled the side cover and you see straight cut gears you have a standard M20

Talked to spec clutches. They seem to think 26 was heavy duty. I thought m22 had 10 spline as,well as straight cut gears.Makes me wonder if they know much about them.Said I needed same clutch as big block

Good grief. Then a standard 26 spline disc 11 inch clutch should work providing the sell me right throw out bearing. Already pulled two ram muscle car clutches due to defect

Melting Slicks
All 1971 Muncie 4-speeds (M20, M21, M22) had 26 input splines - so tells you nothing.
Number of grooves on the input shaft though may tell you what you have if it's unmolested.
M20 = 2, M21 = 1, M22 = none

1970 and up Muncie uses 26 spline input shaft on everything (M20, M21, M22) including base models. The tailshaft housing has only 3 shifter mounting holes so they are easy to identify.

In 1970 only 454 Chevelles got M-22's with 26 spline input/32 spline output...
All other M-20, M-21, and M-22's used 10 spline input/27 spline output...
In 1971 and later all Muncie's used 26 spline input/32 spline output...
Hope this helps... Eric
