Default That moment you know you trust your own brake work

View from over the hood of 2Tone82...and down the boat ramp as I headed out on a test drive after working on the brakes.

I finally replaced a leaky caliper discovered when I brought her out of winter storage earlier this year. I'm fortunate to have a 30x30 garage at the lake - makes for a great place to work on the car...if I get frustrated I fish, if no fish are biting I can turn wrenches...I wrench until I don't want to wrench anymore, no worries!

BTW, all went well for the brake job - she didn't get wet.

You're a brave individual! I did about 10 trips on the driveway before I got on the neighborhood street

Over the years, a lot of my colleagues have been shocked that I do my own brake work. They always ask how I trust my own work enough to put my family in the cars. I always ask them how they trust their family’s safety to the work of strangers.

Glad you caliper repair went well.

Glad you didn't perform that hill test for the Park Brake!
That would most assuredly have left you in the drink!

Not down playing pride in fixing ones own brakes, i dont trust most shops anyway,
but i never felt c3 and the c2s that share it were all that epic, or they are damn forgiving,

I did a super half assed quick rebuild of the front on my modded 66, i wanted to hit a special cruise that night,

They had been off sitting out on the driveway, were rusty, dirty, and the only thing i did was clean them poorly and install the rebuild kit, they did have stainless sleeves,

I knew they would leak or at the very least seep,

Nope, i was floorded they lasted a few years of daily driving til i parked the car for other reasons,

But if you do your own work win or loose at least you tried

It is not a matter of if the caliper will leak, but when...because they will leak especially if the car is not driven (I put less than 200 miles on this car last year). Yes, SS sleeved as well. I've had some success with driving a slow leaking caliper and had it reseal but no deal this time, it had to be replaced. Also the pads were soaked so new pads on both sides. Easy enough and comes with the territory of owning a 30+ year old car. Just happy I can wrench on her myself.

it's a hobby and suppose to be fun...stop doing it when it's not fun and come back to it another day!

In the 80s my 81 dd hit 100k in 88 89 and i had never changed the calipers, they didnt leak,

Seems not using them as cars hurts them the most
