Default Magazine feature about me and my Corvette!!

In the current fall issue of the quarterly magazine Autostrada Forum, there is a feature story about me and my Corvette!! It is both cool and weird to see myself and my car in a magazine! You can find the magazine at Chapters Indigo, Barnes & Noble, and Book-A-Million stores.

This first pic is the cover of the current issue. I wonder if I had worn a suit for the photo shoot, then maybe I would have gotten the cover instead of the guy with the $20 million car collection!!!

These are some of my favorite pics from the photo shoot for the story:

Here is a link to the magazine's web site for a bunch more pictures, some from my own personal collection, and more from the photo shoot:

Thanks! I did a body-off restoration on this car by myself over a 7.5 yr period, and I am very proud of the final product. I've been sitting on these pics for weeks, and I was a bit hesitant to post them here. Finally decided to share them.

Beautiful car! And I am partial to white with the early C-3 bright red interiors. Lou.

Hard to make white look good but you did it.
Clean subtle, stance "just right"

Looks great!! Like the air cleaner bases who makes it?

Beautiful work. It is obvious you put a lot of THOUGHT into your project along with all the work. Love the colors, and the seats look like they were designed for that model. I am also encouraged since I only have 3 1/2 years into my build so far. If it turns out as nice as yours I will be thrilled. THanks for sharing, and tell us a little bit more about your project since I don't know where to find that magazine down here in South Carolina.

Thanks!

The air cleaner base is a custom spun aluminum 1.5" drop made by a company local to me: http://www.universalspinners.com/

I was wondering about your radiator hose kits. I keep searching and all I can find is the corrugated ones, but what you have is what I am after. And links or SEARCH terms. Thanks.

Wow... what a car! Absolutely gorgeous... I am picking up my first Corvette on Saturday, a '69 Convertible. I don't know that I will have the attention to detail, or even the attention span, to do as nice of a job as you did... but it certainly gives me a goal to shoot for! Thanks for sharing.

Well, in 1995 after many years of serious drag racing, I decided to build something that could also stop and take corners as well as accelerate. I had always loved the early bumper vettes, so that was what I bought. It was an all original and numbers matching driver quality car, with the base 350 and an automatic. I was just going to build a nice motor and do some bolt-on brake and suspension upgrades, and then I found the dreaded rust rot in the birdcage and the frame. It was then that I decided the only thing to do was a total body off restoration. I started it in January 1997. Somewhere along the way during the 7.5 yr restoration, a close to factory restoration turned into a full restomod instead! The car was back on the road in 2004, and honestly the changes and modifications hasn't ever stopped! I consider it to be my never-finished rolling work of art!

Some of the build details:

-406 cubic inch full roller and forged engine
-FAST Ez-Efi fuel injection
-TKO600 5spd trans
-Wilwood 6 piston front and 4 piston rear brakes
-VBP front upper and lower control arms
-VBP front dual mount composite spring
-Van Steel rear trailing arms
-VBP rear 360lb composite spring
-QA1 single adjustable shocks
-C5 Z06 seats with custom covers
-headlights and wiper door converted from vacuum to electric
-custom LED halo headlights and tail lights

The following parts were custom CNC machined and/or engraved:

-fender emblems
-hood badges
-valve covers
-gas lid
-rear deck vents
-door sill plates
-wheel center caps

Good luck with your build, sometimes it seems like it will never be done, but you will get there eventually!!

The upper and lower rad hard pipes are polished aluminum; the upper is 1.5" OD pipe and the lower is 1.75" OD pipe. I used small pieces of the stock rubber hoses to make the connections. I bought universal pipes and cut them to the proper dimensions, and I then used a tubing beader to put the proper bead back on the cut ends. The upper pipe obviously has a 90 bend in it, while the lower pipe has a 45 bend in it. Ebay can be a source for these universal pipes.

Beautiful ride! If it were my decision, you'd be on the cover with your vette.

I joked with the magazine publisher that I am the token poor guy in the issue!!
