What Broke on Your C3 This Week?

Nothing "Broke" but the other night while at work (daily driver) we had monsoon rains for about 2 hours and it totally flooded my two floorboards and back luggage area. Usually my car is pretty tight in light to medium rain but this was a total gully washer and it had no chance. I think I contributed to the back getting wet as I neglected to snap the back of the soft top down all the way.
Just got it all dried out.....Pulled both side carpets and ran fans on them for a day. Pulled the back carpet and set it in the sun. All is dry again.

Damn I feel really guilty. Bought my car 12/31/2016 and have put 6,000 trouble free miles on it. Other than putting a set of plugs in it and charging the a/c, nothing has been done.

Strap your seatbelt on............it's coming This is my second C3 and one thing that is abundantly clear I that crap happens and working on them is just part of the ownership experience

Absolutely nothing broke this week... that said if it dont make it faster or lighter its not on my car... with the exception of the C4 third brake light (I just wanted one) I do however drive it nearly every day...
It does wear out a set of Nitto 555Rs about once a year and can be tough on pinion snout frame mounts an stub axle shafts but those are my own doing and would not normally fail in NORMAL street use...
So I keep a spare differential for just such an occasion...

my Wallet, I'm pricing out the parts to rebuild my HT 327. the HT will cost me just over $4000 for the parts i want, so I picked up a cheap 327 for $600 that I can just throw in for the fall. WELLLLLLLL, i decided that the cheap 327 needed to be at least 330 hp so its costing me $2000. I guess you'll be seeing an engine build thread

Took the '71 to get some gas. After filling up the starter made a bad grinding sound and the engine just barely started. Got home and tried to restart it but just grinding noises, no cranking.
The starter is a GM gear reduction starter from autozone and this was #5 that failed, only a year old. Lifetime warranty so until now I just got a replacement from autozone but this time I did some googling and found out autozone doesn't sell real GM but chinese copies. Big difference compared to GM is the main ring gear in the gear reduction is made out of plastic! No wonder they keep failing.
Ordered a Powermaster starter. Autozone lifetime warranty is worthless when they only have junk.

When I took off the old autozone starter I saw that all the teeth had broken off the bendix. Luckily the ring gear survived.

Well I guess after 39 years the th350 **** the bed. Picked up my son last night from daycare, drove home, parked in the garage, worked perfect.
This morning, back it out like normal, dropped it into drive, nothing. nothing in 1 or 2. Droped into R, dead. blocked the wheel and check out the shifter linkage, all good.
Towed it to a local trans shop. Its screwed. Shaving in the pan, clogged filter, fluid like new, maybe slightly darker. Waiting on a rebuild quote as I type. So much for the head/cam swap this winter.

Dodosmike, the same thing happened to my TH350 trans about two months ago, lost second gear unexpectedly. I had it rebuilt for $1300.00 and they added a shift kit while it was being rebuilt. Big difference in shifting now, the shifts are firm and quick. I would suggest that you have them put a shift kit in yours also unless you want it factory stock. JMO.
Trying to figure out the difference between "stock, stg1 and stg2" and what one stg get me over the other.
Stock was fine for years i guess, but I'v got a case of "while I'm at it's"......aka project creep.
quote is $1550 all in. A 700r4 was exactly double in cost.
Off to the shop right now actually.

Saturday went for a cruise on the hi way then around the town about 60 miles. Stopped to top off the tank and take the long way home. All is good ...then it dies, limp into a parking lot . Cranks but no spark! Flat bed home to the garage . Will mess with it later this week. Sure does look good up on the flat bed!

Two weeks ago went for a cruise night with Vette club crew, Sunday had a pool of brake fluid under the drivers side. Turned out my Master Cylinder was leaking from the rear of the piston all over my nicely painted frame and booster.
Changed the MC the following Saturday and since I was working on the car and had my tools out, decided to start my winter project early. Removed the entire front suspension to clean up, paint and install new parts.
