I've never heard of putting the bigger wheels in the front and smaller in back. What would be the advantage?

The tire sidewall discrepancy would be huge and therefore look odd.
On the other hand Rad Rides by Troy built "Bumongous" way back when an did that but it was a pro street '50 Buick.

Here's a pic of Bumongous. I've seen a few pro-streets set up this way and thought of the same for the vette. Very different for a corvette, but I like the look.

I've seen plenty of C5s with a 17" front and 15" rear. As well as Camaros (4th gen and 5th gen) and mustangs. Benefit is more sidewall in the rear, giving you more traction. You dont need that in the front for the strip, as it is just rolling resistance.

I guess for the strip it would work, but looks goofy. Why not just have 15s all around?

Because you cant have big tall skinny tires up front with 15's. Skinny 15's are usually not very tall and don't fill the wheel well up very well.

Wow this is sick and I want one.....

I do not believe that a 15" on a newer F body will clear the calipers on the front......or any newer Vette, etc........

And 17" Drag radial have the disadvantage of a short sidewall for wrinkle.....

I dig the look. Just looking to see it on a C3. If it didn't have the right suspension setup it could look silly.

Stance and wheel choice is important here....

At the strip I get it. But on a street car I think it looks odd.

Way back 14" Anson slots in the rear with 15" American Racing 200s in the front was popular.

It did not look so strange as the Anson's were more of a solid look and AR were spokes. Also only 1" difference. I never liked the look.

The thought was more sidewall for drag racing. ?

15's skinny's do come in a variety of OD's (26, 28, 30's). It's just on newer cars you can't run 15's up front due to the factory spindle/caliper arrangement. That's why you see guys running this type of 15/17 arrangement.

But, did you ever try to drive a car with 30 or even 28 x 4.5 x15" tires up front and go into a turn at anything but slow speeds without crapping your pants?
