1982 What to Look for when buying
I plan to look at a 1982 in a week with a plan toward fixing up, and changing the color, and basically have something to tinker with. I do not have the space for a huge restore project, or a garage full of speciality tools. Do you have any suggestions about what I should look for on this car, to avoid creating a project that is bigger than I hope for?

Read through the 10 Things to Look For sticky and, if possible, take someone with you who has experience with these cars. You could also take pics and post them here.
Good Luck.

You may also want to look at this sticky for '82 models only...

Agree with all the above. For the most part the 82s will have the same issues as any C3...exceptions are the crossfire engine and 700R4 tranny as these were new in 82. Crossfire gets a bad rap but left alone it runs pretty darn good. Over the years most people have removed items such smog stuff resulting in an even more temperamental running motor. Your plans may be to change the motor but I recommend making sure the parts are there - even if not on the car - so you'll have them. The tranny will "hunt" for gears in town as the OD tries to figure out were it's suppose to be but the 700R4 is a great transmission. Hint - only drive in D on the hwy. Enjoy the hunt!
