Glue for inside rear view mirror vinyl surround to metal housing
Vehicle: 1975 convertible.
I am looking for recommendations as to the best adhesive to reattach the inside rear view mirror's vinyl surround to the metal housing.
While putting in new glass about 6 months ago, I removed the vinyl surround to glean up the metal housing with fresh paint and even applying a new label. I used the following glue but it is not holding.
I also found the following threads with no other suggestions than silicone adhesive.
1) https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c3-general/3042225-anyone-ever-change-a-mirror.html
2) https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c3-tech-performance/2619371-what-adhesive-to-use-on-rear-view-mirror-surround.html
Surely there's something better and as effective as what was used during it's manufacture.
Not looking to replace the entire unit as I have the one with the map light,
Thank you for any direction.

Update for possible future assistance to anyone.
13 months later and this is the adhesive I finally found and used with excellent results.
Still holding since late September 2016. So, 1 year plus.
This has an odor similar to the old Testers model cement. Smells gooooood to a child from the 60's!
