1970 454 - I purchased this back in 2010 and am finally getting around to fixing things... Wires run from this thing (see picture) to the battery and to the dash. The wire to the dash was broken. The radiator was swapped out for a becool, is this part of that?

It's a relay commonly uses to take power directly to the headlight motors or electric fans if you have them. The purpose is to eliminate high current flowing all the way to the dash controls and then back to whatever it's used for. If your car had electric fans, I'd say that's it. Follow the wires and see if they end up at the headlight motors, or wherever.

I see the generic relay is plugged into a board and I see I do believe an adjustment pot, likely an electric fan controller with adjustable temp....not unlike,
The broken wire to dash could have been an override or switched lead....

Is the radiator fan electric? Is it a 30 amp Fuse to the relay? Is there an aftermarket switch in the dash? It is an after market relay, and it might be a relay for the coolant fan. You should find out what is controlling the relay, where the power for the relay is coming from. I use two on mine, they are controlled by a temperature gage in the head, passenger side and power for the fans come from the starter terminal with 30 amp fuses. They pull a lot of amps.
