Default Validate C3 information

I need some help gang. I'm looking for my first C3 and found one of interest. The car was restored by Performance Plus Corvettes which is no longer in business. I also found one post in this forum that states the owner of Performance Plus is known to doctor trim tags, etc.

I have no idea if this is true or not. Is there anywhere I can verify the original information of the car from the VIN? It isn't listed on the C3 registry.

I just want to do my research and ensure the car is legit.

Thanks for your help towards this C3 newbie.

Post a picture of the trim tag along with the VIN and we'll tell you if we see anything that is of concern. It won't guarantee the car is legitimate, but if it isn't something often stands out like build date on trim tag doesn't match VIN build date.

Hi 410,
Although that's a pretty picture, in order to study the detail of the trim tag a photo of it taken from straight on and with as little glare as possible would help.
Regards,
Alan

I agree Alan and have asked for such. They committed to sending it today. I will post when available.

I really appreciate your input Alan, I've been following some of your posts...you really know these cars!

Trim tag looks very shinney and clean unusual for a corvette of that age sometimes if you look down inside door you can see original color .
Side note are you a 410 Sprint car racer
Thanks
Wes

The "shineyness" is what I was concerned about as well.

Wes, I owned a 410 team when I lived in PA. We ran the circuit back there from 2008-2014. I sold it all when I moved to CA and now I can afford to look for my dream car!

My '71 trim tag is still very shiny. Also, I don't see the black rubber water diverter that should be above the trim tag below the fender.
Not sure if you can see it in my picture.

Also, does it have the blue sticker/tag on the drivers door?

I saw the '72 advertised online, nice looking SB Convertible. I see it has won several trophies.

Don't worry about the shinyness. I need to see the letter C in Chevrolet and the number 9 for the paint code. Those are the two characters that at least one company does not get right.

Wes - does this mean you might make it out to KNOXVILLE, IA sometime? If so let me know - we are 20 minutes away!

The VIN confirms a 72 convertible equipped with base engine (K). Other than engine, there is no option or color combination information in the VIN.

72's did not have the water diverter on them.

Thanks, I wasn't sure when GM stopped installing them.

Awesome, I need to get up there sometime. I especially want to see Tulare! I live in Orange County CA and we race in Arizona about 8 times a year. My son has a 360 ride over there.

Fred Rahmer drove for me in 2013 when we won the National Open. I will never forget that season.

Hi 410,
I'm surprised to see the marks left by the pop-rivet tool on the surface of the head of the rivet.
I'm not sure how typical that might be.
Regards,
Alan

Here are some additional photos guys. Thanks for any input from the pros! Does it look like something has been brushed onto the frame? Is this common?

Was restored in 2005 according to owner. I'm not expecting perfect, just don't want to get burned with a troubled car.

Any input on these latest photos? Thx.
