This is what Chevy is producing today????
I just purchased a set of brand new cast aluminum O.E.M. small block valve covers from a Chevrolet dealer. The valve covers are festooned all around with short 'cracks' and spiders that make the covers looked unacceptable and of the LOWEST quality. The inside of the covers are 500% worse.
How does Chevrolet allow such crap to be shipped out of their factories? This is like the low quality products that GM used to produced back in the 70's and 80's. The public abandoned GM then. GM promised the public that they learned their lesson and would only produce first rate product. Hmmmm...
Look at this photo of one of the valve covers.

Have you considered returning the covers and getting your money back?

The GM aluminum valve covers have looked like that for many years. If you think they're bad, you should see what the 57-59 staggered hole aluminum covers look like!
Both the US made Paragon repro's, and the foreign made ones from Keen Parts, are far superior to the current GM ones, and I think they're cheaper too.

The dealer was delightful and offered to take them back without any problem. They acknowledged the poor quality of the covers as well. I have already returned the covers.

I have to doubt that gm cares any about selling parts that are many decades old ( design ) is there even a new car that the covers would fit?
GM is concerned with selling a new car that in very few years will be ditched like a dollar store razor and another new car is bought

A number of the reproduction finned valve covers lack the critical drip tabs on the inner surface (that drip oil onto each valve).
The covers that Corvette Central sells have the drip tabs. I ordered a pair with the emblem and used the coupon code to save shipping charge. (Thanks, Donnie!).

GM doesn't make many parts anymore. They just buy from the lowest cost vendor who SAYS that they comply with GM's specs. For aftermarket parts, they just buy junk from China or Mexico and put it in a box that says, "Made in USA". Of course, that means that the BOX was made in the US>
GM is the LAST place I would ever go to buy parts for my car.
