Help with a unusual barn find

Hello,
I'm new to the Corvette world and have purchased a 1971 convertible that has been in a barn since around 1972. So this will be the first of many questions.
Paint code is 984 but the car is Red? I see no signs of it having been painted as the mileage is extremely low and can find no yellow anywhere.
Thoughts
Thank you

Pvirg;
Congrats on the incredible find. Hat's off to you for memorializing your friends memory by sharing this with us.
I would like to extend the invitation to you to bring this car to MCACN in the Chicago area. Our show draws the who's who of the Corvette world including sveral of those named previously, and several of our Judges are nationally recognized C3 experts. The exposure would be great, not to mention a whole lot of fun, and it is a great way to get anyone who may have knowledge of the car and its race history to share their memories. This year we will have several special displays that would be appropriate for this car.
It is especially great to hear your intent is to KEEP the car and hopefully show it, whether with us or anywhere else!
Please feel free to e-mail me at bashton426@gmail.com to discuss, and of course, I would be happy to call you at your convenience.
THANKS;

Its been fun following this thread and seeing the pics Pvirg has been posting. I think it's important to note that he's been posting on our behalf.
I think I can speak on behalf of the vette community that we're looking forward to more pics and updates on what's happening with the car as you move forward with the cleanup of the car. Keep us posted.

I'm still thinking that the racecar is a '70 roadster rather than a '71. To that end, the VIN would read "194670S4XXXXX"
If it was always to be a racecar and never meant to be licensed, there may not be a title, only a Bill of Sale. That document should still contain a VIN. If it's pre-production, then it could be a wonky VIN at that.
As for the LT-1 Coupe, the VIN would read "194370S4XXXXX" for a '70.
Hope this helps.

Great story, subscribed. Good luck with the discovery, props to you for wanting to memorialize your friend by carefully handling this piece of history. Hopefully the two cars can be kept together somehow for posterity. That shot of the high rise on the engine with the dual carbs brought flashbacks to the 70's for me. Keep them both as originally found as possible!
