78 Which wire for power antenna?
I finally got my glued in radio out with a carbide bit with a lot of grinding, it was in a single din mount which was also glued to the Sony radio. Now I'm ready to replace it question is which wire powers the antenna? I know the small red one is always on is the heavy yellow one the antenna power, does that power a relay to the antenna? Thanks for any help it took two hours I had to cut the radio out of the mount piece by piece I would like to get a hold of the idiot that did that!
I will be mostly using an SD card so I would like to put a switch to cut off the power antenna to save using it when not needed, can anybody help on that?

Pic of FACTORY relay under the center arm rest.
Yellow is the trigger for the antenna, orange is constant hot, black ground.
That yellow first comes from a harness under the dash to the radio for radio power and then comes right back out of the radio and goes to the antenna.
Put an on/off switch on the yellow between the radio and antenna. On will raise, off will cut the power and lower it.

So if I put a cutoff switch on the big yellow wire going to the radio going to the radio will the radio not play? Do I have to follow the under dash wire further down the harness for my cutoff switch. Thanks for your help.

Don't put the cutoff switch before the radio.
Between the radio and the antenna(relay).
Why not remove the pass side carpeted console cover and locate the relay(all the way to the back).
Splice your on/off switch into the yellow wire there.
Or...don't know what you have disassembled at this time but you can probably locate that yellow under the center console easy enough to splice into it.

I am looking for the wiring diagram for the power antenna on my 78. All the links I have tried in this forum seem to be broken. Help! Thanks.

I guess we can compare, here is the page from the trouble shooting manual I have for 1978. I forgot I had this.

What is the exact title of the manual with the wiring diagrams?
I want to buy it so I have all of them for my 78.
The previous owner made a hairball out of all the wiring in the console and under dash!

This will give you an idea...the page I posted is from the electrical appendix of the 1979 Shop Manual that was Corvette specific. It appears that for 1978 there was a single combined manual that featured related cars. Totally indispensable book.

Also highly recommend getting a re-print of the Assembly Instruction Manual (AIM) if you don't already have...all part numbers and exploded diagrams, invaluable restoration tool

The name is the Electrical Diagnostics manual for the 1978 Corvette.. but I do believe I can get you a free copy of this so email me Monday when I'm back in my office. You should also invest in the AIM... we have them on searchable CD too.
