Default What are you guys using to lubricate the rear trailing arms ?

1. Rear trailing arms ?
2. The very bottom of the Steering Box under the motor has some teeth or gear showing ; good idea to lubricate it ?
3. Suspension rubber/polyethylene bushings ?

Any other lubrication tips ? Thanks, Dave.

As far as I know there is nothing on the trailing arms to lube. Unless you're talking about the wheel bearings and in that case, wheel bearing grease. If you're removing your trailing arms to rebuild, you may want to anti seize the bolt that goes through the bushing when you put it back in.

If your talking about the bottom part of the sector shaft that sticks out of the bottom of the steering box, no need to lube that unless you want sand and dirt from the road sticking to it.

Hi TcmD,
For number 3; I'd guess if the bushings have gotten so hard that they're creaking or squeaking it's time to replace them rather than lube them.

The teeth showing are actually called splines.
The exposed area between the rag joint and shaft end require no attention. Unless you want to hit the splines with a little pb blaster to clean up.
I'd keep all chemicals away from the rag joint as its fiber bound.
A tooth brush shot with a solvent and brushed on is a more controlled way to apply.

Trailing arms are best rebuilt by a pro if needed. There is a device for greasing the bearings by removing the half shaft but it is not met with much enthusiasm on this forum.

Bushings are a personal preference the rubber rides a little more relaxed.
Forum members have both.
Lube the front end good with a good grease gun and there is a fitting in both drive shaft u joints as well. You may need a needle nipple fitting on the grease gun for the drive shaft I know I did.
Keep asking ? That's how we all learned

If you have polyurethane bushings that squeak, they need to be lubricated. A tube of silicone or Teflon grease was provide with mine by the manufacturer. After a few years, mine, on the front control arms started to squeak and I did not want to remove them to lube them. So I used a syringe to inject oil (I used auto trans fluid because I had a lot of it) into both ends at the shafts and they've been quiet for the last few years.

If you are talking about grease, Timken makes some really good bearing grease.
