Default A Message I Sent to Lars Today

I hope he is OK!

Hello Lars,

It seems that you are out of circulation now but I wish to report back to you. Last February you re-did an “unmolested” #7044502 Q-Jet for me (1974 Chevelle 350 auto CA) that you had in backroom stock. I installed it about four weeks ago on my 1974 Corvette 350 L-48. It is wonderful. Cold idle is ~1,200rpm and warmed up idle in P is ~800rpm and in D ~600rpm. No off-idle stumble and it cruises very well. There is minor exhaust popping at WOT but I am not worried about that. So whatever you are doing these days I still wish to thank you!

It looked like junk as first and I was reluctant to go for it but as he surmised it was unmolested (not commercially molested) and turned out just fine after some expert re-build work. Not pretty plating, just good internal work.

I wish I would have sent Lars my 1975 L82 Q-Jet. Its in dire need of a professional rebuild.

I have many of Lars papers that he wrote. I keep them in a binder on my shelf for reference.

Hopefully he is still around, but just too busy to check in.

I don't have personal knowledge of his present situation, but I suspect that he has pretty well "had it" with this Forum. He has tried for many years to help others with Q-Jet and other C3 related technical questions. But, there are those crazies lurking who always want to challenge him, argue against his advice, and generally make it unpleasant for him to participate actively on the CF.

Although I don't have near the credentials that Lars does, I've put in my years of effort working with and learning about the nuances of several C3's. But, when you share WHAT YOU KNOW about these cars with others, there's always that group of a$$____s that want to take you on or "know better".

It gets tiresome, and I expect Lars just finally gave up on this Forum. I don't think I'll be far behind.

I to had my 1975 L48 Q Jet rebuilt by Lars back in May of this year. It would appear that I got in under the wire. He did an awesome job on mine and I couldn't be happier. Sorry to see he has given up on this forum. There are those of us who have benighted from his experience(s) and wish he was still active.

I for one would be sorry to see you go and I'm sure there are lots of others that feel the same. I miss Lars input as well and his advice steered me in the right direction to set up the Holley on my SBC and I'm certain it works better now than it ever did for a previous owner/s.
From someone who is new to American cars of any sort I really appreciate the advice I get from members of the forum and the advice and stories of others have inspired me to do a lot to my car and it is steadily improving from what it was when I bought it.
But this is a forum and trying to get everyone on the same plane and in agreement is about as easy as herding cats. I can appreciate why some bail out. JMHO

As a newer member I saw you guys talk about Lars, so I looked up some of his posts and his posts always impressed me. I have always considered myself good with q-jets, but after reading his stuff, I realize that I know nothing! Would have been fun to keep reading his posts.

I also agree with the above. I sent my graveyard Q-jet to Lars and he
worked his miracle on it. When I reinstalled my engine and placed the
Q-jet back on, pumped the accelerator and it fired right up. It has
been since the first of the year and it works flawlessly.
Sure hopes he returns sometime in the future as we really need his
expertise to work on our C3's.

I hope he returns. People like Lars can not be replaced and as time passes these cars will be more difficult to get right.

I have never understood some that come on a forum like this just to cause trouble. Is your life that dull? I do not make my living via the corvette world. Its a hobby. A hobby should be fun. Life is hard enough ( I lost my son to cancer ) and to find an escape like this is needed in my opinion. I wish as a whole all forums would "grow up". Put aside the egos. None of us "knows it all". You come across as a jerk when you pretend you do.

Though my current QJet is running pretty good, I too had thoughts of sending off the QJet that is sitting on my shelf to Lars to dive into and work his magic on. I have enjoyed many of his write ups, and I love it when he would tell us the story of forum members rebuilds that he would work on. He would show us what was wrong, what was right, and what to do. Always enjoyed them. Please don't let Lars go, bring him back to share his vast wealth of knowledge.

I hope Lars is just taking a well deserved rest from this forum. His contributions are beyond helpful to those of us who think we know how to work on Q- jets. I think we all can and have learned from him,and it would be a shame to loose him.

7T1Vette.....don't even consider leaving the board.....we won't allow that! Your contributions are also valued alot here.

I had sent Lars a note a few months ago about rebuilding the Qjet for my 72. He responded that he was not doing it anymore and that he was working with the racing team (if I remember correctly).

I did not bother him after that, as he has a right to make that decision.

I wish I had sent it to him earlier, but it is what it is.

I don't understand why some people act they way they do on any forum. I guess they get keyboard muscles. We have so many great people on this forum who are always willing to give out info that it is amazing. Then a few jerks kick up the dust and the good people get tires of the B.S.

Like Rodney King said "Why can't we all get along".

But if we left where would we go? I have found all automotive forums are exactly the same as there are very few truly knowledgeable people and many weekend warrior "experts" who can't be reasoned with. Armed with 50 years of "hands on" experience and 20 years as a professional engine builder I came to this forum hoping to dispel the C3 myths that have been floating around for 40 years but came under a fierce attack by those experts. As this Corvette forum is the largest in the world with around 220,000 members it also has the largest number of out-and-out ignorant fools.
